Range

I'd like to know what others get on their Range reading when they fill up. I stop on the first click and never top off.

I have an 03 V8 4x2 SR5 and get 450's and burn regular.

...just curious.

I get a Range reading of about 390 miles in the summer and 365 miles in the winter (with oxygenated fuel).

The Range calculation seems to be a whole lot more accurate than the MPG readout, which consistently (and annoyingly) reads 10% high. (I wish there was a way to calibrate the darned thing...)

BTW, I run 91 octane regular (Calfornia formulation) with no knocking and no sulphur smell.

It's been discussed before. Check out this thread: http://toyota-4runner.org/showthread...i+filled+up+to

I get about 400 using regular as well. I do 50/50 highway/city driving and average speed is 31 mph

I wonder what really effects mileage. I have a 4x2, with Michelin CrossTerains and run them at 36psi. I also use Regular fuel and 5w-30 synthetic oil (Red Line).

The other thing is that I found out that driving 80 mph kills mileage and does not really get you there that much quicker. In traffic there will always be a traffic jam that gets in the way.

I have been getting 450's when driving 55 to 70 mph, windows up and easy on speed changes. I've been commuting just under 200 miles a day and the slower pace has made practically no difference in time because of the traffic. Last tank, 335 miles and 15.1 gallons. The range has been very accurate, within 10 miles, but the mileage reading has always been 10% high.

You've got a 4X2, so that makes a lot of difference since you don't have the weight penalty of a 4X4.

Also it looks like your commute is pretty far. I only have a 20 mile commute one-way. I've read that driving faster than about 60 MPH is actually worse on your gas mileage.

I've found that the Range computer is playing it safe. It says you have less range than you actually do. I've got a thread where my Range computer said I only had 1 mile left. When I filled it up, it only filled up to 21 gallons. The 4th Gens have a tank of 23 gallons so there was at least 30 more miles (2 gallons x 15mpg) The 15mpg is a safe estimate on my part, I usually get 17-18mpg.

The highest I've ever gotten was 350 and I burn premium due to the S/C

When I first bought the 4Runner, I got around 360. After the trip from New York, I see significant gain in miles. I get 400. My mileage is now 3800.

I have an 04 v8 4x2 3200miles, put 93 octane in and get 315-340.

I've never seen it higher than 340....

With roughly 6000 miles, mostly highway driving mine consistently shows 455 (04 SR5 V6).

Just filled up, again, regular and got 451. and have 12,354 on the clock.

I've been filling up every other day at just about 400 miles and this Range figure has been within 10 miles. Too bad the MPG function isn't as accurate.

I had no idea the 4runner could get that many miles out of a tank. I guess the driver of mine isn't capable of good gas milage... ;)

The 4Runner must have a pretty big drag coefficient compared to more aerodynamic cars. If you look at the equation for drag (air) you will see that the drag goes up with the square of the velocity, so it is not linear and going 80 and 90 mph is much more inefficient than 50 and 60 mph.

I use my MPG readout as a relative indicator rather than a true measure of my absolute mileage.

BTW, I get about 400 miles on my range in 50/50 driving with an average speed of about 28-30 mph. I use regular, 35 psi, 5w-30 non-synthetic oil.

1st tank (1-13-04) = 316 on range display at fill up

current tank (7-8-04) = 365 on range display at fill up

40 mile round trip to work mon-fri @ 65-75mph

the range display has slowly gone up 1-4 miles per fill up

only fill up till the pump clicks off then top off to the nearest dollar.

When you report your range numbers tell us more about your vehicle....tires,tire pressure, engine and 4x4 or not and driving conditions/habits...

Okay to drop the ball on this one and screw w/ everyone's numbers...

I'm averaging 330 (if I'm lucky). I guess the 16 mi round trip traffic commute to work doesn't help much (ave 25mph at best).

Also all the mods don't help either (figure the added weight of over 300#)...

o well it's still a fun vehicle to drive

spec:
03 v8 4x4
tire - 285/75/16 (36psi)
added weight including me (500#)

Driving style:
slow like a snail cuz of the dang la traffic (8 mi eachway averaging 25).

Btw, the 330 is the corrected/calculated value since I'm running bigger tires.
