Residue from icy/salty roads?

Hi folks!

This may be a no brainer for some, but I live in los angeles, so snow is a rarity. Went up to big bear for wheelin and fun after a big storm. They were just starting to plow the roads. The plows dropped these brown pellets behind them (salt i thought, but maybe not?)

After getting home, I washed off the car. There is still this sticky, rough residue that clings to the finish. It looks terrible, and feels rough. I washed it again, and it still stays. What is this stuff and how do I get it off?

I can keep rubbing it with my fingers, and it eventually clumps up on my fingers and comes off, but there must be a better way, or a product to get it off faster?

I would call the County or State DOT and inquire as to exactly "what" it is. I am sure it will eventually come off, but WOW

If that white stuff is rock salt, hope you get them off as soon as you can. The longer it stays on your paint, the harder it is to take them off.

If anyone gets stuck with this same crap on their car, very hot water loosens it up. I kept dousing it with HOT soapy water, then scrubbing with just a sponge, and it came off.

Maybe they are mixing beet juice in with the salt, or some other organic compound. It lowers the freezing point of the ice-melting compound. It's probably less damaging to your vehicle than straight salt.
