waxing

being someone that truly loves my 4runner almost more than his fiancee sometimes and like to keep it as clean as possible....can you wax a car too much? i've had time lately and if it was up to me i would wax it every week. i like to do it regulary especially with the harsh winter we have been having. when is it too much? just want to know if its possible.

I don't think waxing your vehicle often will do anything bad to it.

Are you at least clay barring the paint to eliminate contaminants?

My goal is to do a full detail every 6months, but this round, I'm going to wait till the 1yr mark is up.

I even try to apply spray wax after each car wash, in between detail jobs, but yeah right, I get lazy. I'm not as uptight as I was when I was younger.

A man after my own heart! You can definitely overwax a vehicle. It will cause a build-up to occur and create hazing and a "waxy" appearance, rather than the smooth shine you are looking for. Concentrate on the polishing and the wax won't matter as much in terms of shine.

You should be careful as to what wax you choose. If it is a cleaner type wax it will have some sort of abrasive or chemical in it which you wouldnt want to overuse. Also, as per the previous poster, you want to ensure the wax you use can be layered to avoid hazy type of build up. Zaino, a sealant, can be layered and there have been users who put on over 50 coats...though most will tell you no noticable gloss enhancement occurs after about the 7th layer iirc.

Problems will arise when you wax weekly if you dont prep correctly as you are simply putting on a coating on top of contimenants, locking them in. But if you clay or polish weekly that would simply be overkill as it removes the previous coat of wax or sealant. My advise would be to prep correctly, put on a few layers of your choice of protection, then enjoy. You will find it wont be necessary to address again for at least 3 months and perhaps much, much longer.

yep most if not all of this info sounds correct.

The steps i take once a month are to wash(with a soap that removes previous wax), clay, polish, and wax. In between i will use a detail spray to keep it clean or after a rain(no garage sucks)

Waxing will do no harm. I always do waxing every month. Wash Polish Wax. If my truck gets dirty between months I just polish it.

as long as you be sure and remove the previous wax beforehand or as stated before, it is just going to build up.
