Doing my first Diff and Transfer case fluid change today on my new to me 2006 4Runner Sport 4WD. This thread has been super helpful. Thanks to this thread I was able to figure out the preferred fluid, correct crush washers and locations to get the job started. Thanks again to the OP and everyone who added in there experience.
Looking forward to adding my experience and results when the job is done later on today.

Fluid change successful. This thread was great to reference.
Started by putting the front of the vehicle on ramps to hopefully get move fluid out of he front differential and transfer case, I don’t think it made a difference on the front differential but I like to tell myself it helped on the transfer case. Side not, surprisingly there wasn’t much rust underneath there. That was a relief after some of the vehicles I’ve had.
After draining the front differential and transfer case I jacked up the rear to make the vehicle level and drained the rear. All hardware came out smooth with no fuss.
Front differential fluid was DARK, like black dark and smelled BAD. Transfer case was pretty clear with some discoloration. Rear differential was dark with slight transparency. I honestly don’t know if these fluids were ever changed.
I used Mobil 1 full synthetic 75W-90 for all three. Man that pump got some use... the pump for the gear oil that is.
I also greased all the zerk fittings for the driveshaft, which also has never seen a service. The slide yokes on the driveshaft were rusted over and I bet I used 3/4 or more of a 14oz grease tube between the two. The U-Joints took the red grease easily put pushed some NASTY looking stuff out. So happy I got all this service done, it really eases my mind about buying a used vehicle of this age with this mileage.
Now that I have typed way to much about a simple fluid change, I just wanna say thank you to everyone on here, it really did help when doing this fluid change. I will answer any questions if anyone has some.

Did TC after 60k miles , fought it cause I usually change my fluids way sooner , trying to get out of that foolishness lol , anyways changed it at 6000 miles when i bought rig new with amsoil 75/90 and installed drain plug magnets for the fill and drain , here is what came off em
and if anyone cares I've been changing oils in Toyota diffs and transferase for over 40 years on my vehicles and have never installed a new crush washer ever and have never once had a leak , some vehicles I had would of had the plugs removed probably 7 times for oil changes and no issue , so don't worry about reusing a crush washer if need be .

What came off fill and drain mind you i cleaned off the fill every time i changed engine oil so it picked up that amount times 10 or so cleanings .
Also you must remember for rear axles , toyota axle bearing are not in oil bath and they are what cause the most heat and metal particles so in theory the rear oil change intervals should be not as soon as an axle that has axle bearings bathed in the oil , something to ponder , thoughts ?

Not sure where the 48 ft-lbs came from either, my ‘06 FSM says 29 ft-lbs for both as well. I did it to that spec last time with no leaks/issues.

Thanks for this, I used this guide today to do my oils. Unknown if they have ever been done before. Truck has just over 60,000 miles on it.
Front diff slightly hazy (Water condensate from lack of use?), transfer box fairly clean, rear diff still slippery but fairly mucky looking. Magnets had done their job, catching metallic sludge.
I used my 12V pump from the ATF change guide to pump the new oil in and it worked fine.
Schoolboy error, I was underneath the transfer box fill hole as I took the plug out, and it must have been slightly over-full as a trickle of smelly hypoid oil landed on me. Clean T-Shirt time
Best forum on the net for these trucks.

The only thing is, I was using the truck in 4WD High to get everything warmed up, on a straight road - coming up to a corner, flip it back into 2WD - unfortunately I had to start turning before it had finished switching (It took ages for some reason) and heard 2 bangs.
I know why, drivetrain lockup, I just need to know what the odds are I've ruined something

For 2018 SR5 are there 2 sizes of crush washers? Anyone have the Toyota parts numbers?

i did this at 80k miles now at 158k.. i got to say transfer case.. looks brand new again.... front diff fluid looked fine too..
rear diff.. was darker.. but not black... I think the frequency set by toyota is a scam to milk more money out of consumers.. . and the manual is what 30k or 60k.. I'd think most would be ok at 100k intervals for everything unless perhaps you tow a lot....
I did my transmission at 80k.. now im probably due for another flush/vaccum.. dealer wanted 330 bucks plus tax.. its getting expensive to maintain vehicles..
