Is annual brake service advised?

I'm used to servicing brakes on my vehicles annually due to some of the salty road conditions experienced in my area. The service typically includes removing the calipers, brackets, pads, slide pins, etc., and cleaning and lubing the necessary areas before re-assembling. It keeps everything moving smoothly and catches small issues such as a sticking slide pin before it becomes a problem. I haven't owned my 4Runner long enough to understand if people do this sort of service on these vehicles and it isn't mentioned in the maintenance schedule. Couple that with the fact that the rear brake dust boots are single use and must be replaced upon each disassembly and I'm starting to wonder if I should even bother servicing the brakes. I'm open to your thoughts on the subject so please educate me.

I'm in a place where that dump salt on the roads if there's just a chance of snow flurries, so I know what you mean.
I do certain annual work on my vehicles, but not the brakes. I may check the pads and rotors periodically and change if needed.

I did the brake service today and am glad I did. It was interesting to see the amount of corrosion that started to form after only one winter. The fronts were easier to service than most cars.

If you’re doing the work yourself, I don’t see why spending a couple hours at the most once a year would be any sort of problem. Better to be hypervigilant than not.
