H02 Sensor (Bank 1 Sensor 2) P0136 Code???

Okay, I keep getting a double P0136 code (O2 Sensor Bank 1 sensor 2).

I have checked the Gas Cap, EFI relay, and replaced the Sensor but I still get the code.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Have you considered swapping the #2 O2 sensors between the driver and passenger side to see if the failure code goes to the other bank? That would tell you if the problem is with the sensor or the wiring going to the Q2 sensor.

Thanks for the idea. I have the old sensor and will try it.

I was able to get under the truck and see if I had condutivity on both sides of the harness and I was unable to get it on one side. I think there is an issue with the wiring harness from the sensor.

Hello,

I have this same problem. Check Engine light went on and the code was P0136... The mechanic said it was the downstream oxygen sensor. This is covered under the Emission Warranty is it? I called the dealer and they said no. The quoted it at $400-$500. what a rip off. How do I go about replacing it? Anywhere i can purchase it and install it myself? Is it easy to install? ANyone has changed this before? Also regarding spark plugs and differential fluid. I have 33,000 miles on my 04 V6. Do i need to change the spark plugs and differential at this time? So far I haven't done any maintenance on my truck... Are the spark plugs on my truck copper? which lasts about 30K? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

Hello,

Is replacing the O2 sensor possible by doing it yourself? HOw much is it? and which brand do you recommend? I am looking at the Bosch part number is 13355.. Price at Autozone is $99.99. anyone has experiences this please give me some suggestions. thank you!

I'm in my 2nd week of the dreaded P0136 code. I've read almost all the threads in this site that contain the words "O2 Sensors" I even found TSB EG005-05 that applies to '03-'04 (1GR-FE) that says "The design of the Oxygen Sensor has been modified to prevent these (P0136/P0156) conditions". 5 yrs and 45K miles this code desided to pop. Anyways, diagnostic reveals Bank 1 Sensor 2 has 0.000 volts (Bank 2 Sensor 2 has 0.556 volts). Armed with the pdf files (manual) I checked the resistance (ohms) values on the terminals and I get the same readings on both the sensors, about 9.6 ohms (manual spec is 11-16 ohms @68 deg)
After reading the TSB EG034-07 (Engine Bank 1 and Bank 2 A/F and O2 Identification) it state that Bank 1 refers to the bank that includes cylinder #1. Is the number 1 cylinder in a 1GR-FE (V6) located in the right of the engine (when viewed seating in the car, or for you sailors Starboard)?
I had a qoute for a Denso OE for $133 or a Denso Universal for $55. I was told by the sales rep that the difference between the two is that I have to splice the Universal.

Did you take it to the mechanic and changed it? Was it the downstream sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2? Bank 1 Sensor 2 is driver's side and after converter. I am searching to see which part i should get. Any suggestions?

I have my own diagnostic tool. I read somewhere here that the Bank 1 is in the passenger side. If Bank 1 is where Cylinder #1 is (as per TSB EG034-07, a would assume that it will be on the passenger side (unless the 1GR-FE is among the odd balls that have the # 1 cylinder in the driver side). I will replace the sensor/s myself, still debating if I should get the (Denso) OE or universal. I actually removed the passenger side sensor yesterday to clean/inspect/test. Took less than 10 minutes to remove without ever lifting the truck.

Hey,

Can you take pics of where the sensor is under the truck so i have an idea where to look without lifting the truck? So you sure Bank 1 is at the passenger side? My code is same as your Bank 1 Sensor 2. I been looking at Bosch #13355. it is like $87 at rockauto.com. Universal is kinda tricky because you have splice the wires and connection might be bad, but it's much cheaper than OE fit.. so i don't know how much of a difference is it.

I attached a pdf and it looks like you're right? not sure. Hope this help. I want to change the O2 asap. I just don't know if there is a need to get the Denso OE for $130 or just get the Bosch #13355 for like $87. what you think?

Thanks for the attachment. It confirmed my assumption that Bank 1 is in the passenger side. Attached is the locations of the different Emissions Control for the V6 (1GR-FE).

And below is the culprit of my problem, the Heated O2 sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2. Lay down under the truck directly below the passenger (front) side. Locate the exhaust pipe. Directly across from where the mud guard would be is the O2 sensor, threaded to the top of the pipe. If you draw an imaginary straight line to the driver side,you will also see the other sensor (Bank 2 Sensor 2). It will have 4 wires.

Off topic lil bit. I am in the process of choosing spark plugs. I am debating to put in Iridium plugs which last longer and cost more. You think there is a need to use them? I am looking at NGK and Denso... what is your take on spark plugs? thanks!

I replaced my plugs with the OE (Denso) from the stealer 2 years ago around 25K miles. As far as the P0136 code, I reset it two days ago and has not come back since. If it does, I will replace it with the OE type.
