Removing Fuel Injectors on 4.0 v6
Does anyone have a shop manual that outlines the procedure for this and could give me the quick run down.
I'm still trying to isolate the cause of my high Long Term Fuel Trim values on the drivers side which is potentially causing a miss on cyl #6. It was suggested I move the #6 injector to the other side of the motor and see if the problem follows. The thinking is that it's a bad injector or even a bad o-ring on it.

Thank you!
Unfortunately that's what I was afraid of, having to take the top of the intake manifold off (I guess they all it the intake air surge tank). Not like my Dodge where it's just 3 bolts and you pull the whole fuel rail off.
Time to trade it in!

Fuel Injector
Anyone replace a fuel injector on a 4.0? Working on a 05 4runner, #4 cylinder. Thanks.

I'm having the same issue on my 04.
Keeps fouling the same plug.
Now time to find someone in the Long Beach area that can change a fuel injector.
I've changed the plug and boot with everything else looking absolutely normal.
UGH!

wow, thats scary, what other symptoms did you have?, how was it diagnosed?, i thought HG issues on the v6 was identified by cylinder 6 misfire.
i swapped coils from cyl4 and cyl 2, lemme see if the misfire will follow,

I swapped coils too. No luck. It was aft driver's side, aft cyl. I forget what it's called, but you test your anti- freeze for exhaust fumes. That's how I found out. GL.

Super stoked on this forum. It definitely helped me and saved a ton.
'04 limited v6 4x4 177k
heavy idle, check engine, cyl #3 misfire.
checked compression also- about 125 PSI everywhere. The highest within the correct % of the lowest.
Replaced plugs. nada.
new (no refurb) ignition coil on #3. Seemed to be better for about a week (200 Miles) then threw same code with heavy idle.
dove all the way down into the fuel injector, swapped #3 with a brand new one. Its been a few weeks now, and I get a heavy idle once in a while, but no code, and the engine sounds way better.
I also cleaned the throttle body and MAF while I was in there. YT videos said it would heavy idle for some time while the computer adjusts to the new airflow.
If you are remotely handy and have a socket set (including a socket drover with allen key heads - weird but there are 3 bolts somewhere in there that require an allen key - and a typical one won't fit easily.) this job is a breeze.

@ SnowyPeaks543
thanks for the heads up.
did you by any chance check the fuel trims before and after the injector swap?
was there a video or step by step pictures of the injector removal process?, am a bit handy with tools&meduim wrenching, so i believe i can handle the ops

I honestly don’t even know what you're referring to-so no.
There are some on YouTube that help- but I used the Hayes manual and it was simple. If you’re handy at all then it’s easy. It was the first time that I actually wrote down every single thing I did step by step- bolt for bolt- and obviously just followed my paper back for install. First time i didn’t have any extra bolts! Haha
Watch your pointer finger on your left hand when removing the engine mount bolt on driver side. It’s tight and the thing you bang into is sharp. Heads up haha.

That’s smart! Coil is a lot easier to change!

I have a 2008 V6. In my Haynes manual there's a note on page 4-12 that says (on V6 models the injectors aren't accessible) below illustration 11.7. I have a misfire on 4, and I've tried replacing the plug and coil. Fuel injector was next. Is it possible to do this myself or is a repair shop the only option?

its an easy job, 5/10, or 4/10. was a lil scared initially, but its an easy ops. remove the top air box.there is hex bolt under there, think 12mm or so, confirm and keep that handy
