Which brake parts to replace?

So I have what may be a very questionable plan to have my '99 4runner (2x4) serviced on the cheap by buying my own brake parts and then bringing them into a discount shop to have them do the work. I bought my truck with 48000 miles on it, and it now has 85000, and I'm getting vibrations when I brake.

The question is what parts should I buy? Pads, drums, discs? Is this an idiotic approach? I know next to nothing about cars in general, just trying to save some cash.

Also, it's probably worth mentioning that I plan on selling this truck in 3-6 months, another reason I don't mind looking for cheap maintenance...

Thanks for any suggestions you guys might have!

You're best off just going to a mom and pop brake/auto maintenance/repair place and having them just replace the parts you need. The worn parts need to be measured to make that determination. There's no way for anyone here to tell you what you need to replace.

Okay thanks. That's exactly what I needed to know.
