Two decent oil sales

I just got a coupon in the mail from Costco, $10 off a 6 pack of Mobil 1. I think they are selling it for $36 or so, that would then be $26 or $4.34 a quart, not great but O.K. It starts October 15th and it has a limit of 3 six packs. I might buy 2 six packs.

Pep Boys has Castrol GTX on sale this week, buy 5 quarts of GTX and buy one oil filter for $10.98. You have to use a rebate, limit two, which with Pep Boys may or maynot work. Still it is now $14.98 without rebate, I have seen Castrol GTX oil for as high as $4 a quart, the price at Pep Boys was $3.99 a quart.

Oil seems to be getting higher and higher. I try to get Mobil 1 for $4 a quart, but that is getting harder and harder to find.

How about the M1 oil change deals? 5qt M1 + M1 filter for $30? That filter alone is $12 so thats a pretty good bargain too IMO, I think I saw that at either AA or AZ.

Another good deal is Pennzoil Platinum, they have a $15 rebate out right now for up to 5qts and it is a fantastic oil.

There is a new AZ that opened up right outside of my base so I swung by after work. 5 qts Mobil 1 EP and Mobil 1 filter for $34.99. Separately was $12.99 and oil was 7.49/qt. I might get 2 more tomorrow. I should be able to run that to 1yr/10K without breaking a sweat, especially since Im going to be switching to a hwy commute in a few months.

They had the same deal with regular or High Mileage Mobil 1 (the HM is a really great oil) for $29.99, which after you count the filter is $3.50/qt.

I went by Costco last Friday and the Mobil 1 was $33.49. The other Costco I saw was $36.49. It was limit 3 so I bought 3 boxes. That comes to under $4 a quart. Sale ends Nov. 1st.

Pennzoil Platinum has had a $15 rebate on a $20 5 quart jug at Walmart which equates to $1/qt. I have many in the basement now.

How do you get the rebate form? $1 a quart is crazy.

That is a fantastic price for an excellent oil! I purchased the BOGO Free offer two years plus ago and my cost for three cases of quarts of 5-30W for the 2007 V8 came out to a little less than two bucks a quart, which I thought then was a steal.

This offer of a fifteen buck rebate is phenomenal.

Found the rebate form online:

http://www.pennzoil.com/documents/04...ine%20form.pdf

All the research I've seen says PP is a very good oil, despite some people's insitence to the contrary.

I've also been meaning to ask: Is there really a "shelf life" for oil? I mean, if I found a good deal such as this one but had just changed my oil and/or wanted to stock up, what's the max amount of time from shelf to engine that you guys would feel comfortable with?

Thanks for the rebate form. It is still good till November 30th. I will go to check it out. As far as oil going bad, I read on a oil forum that regualr oil can go bad in two years, but Mobil 1 will last 10 years. (My thinking is Penzoil sythetic should last 10 years also.) I have had Castrol GTX for over two years over the years. Right now I have about 8 oil changes of Mobil 1. With my two 4Runners that should last a little less than two years.

I have heard two people say Pennzoil is a bad oil. One said it's the worst oil on the market and another said you can tell with the excessive amount of wax during an engine rebuild that Pennzoil was used. I've used Pennzoil quite a bit on my old cars and had no issues with them. I asked the service manager at the dealer if he would recommend against Pennzoil, he said he knew of no issues using Pennzoil.

I've stocked up on oil before when they have sales. I mark the date I purchased the oil on the carton and use FIFO (first in, first out). I don't think there's any issues as long as the API donut on the bottles meet the minimun requirements for the engine. IIRC, the Pennzoil that was on sale was SJ service and my Camry called for SL. I don't shake up the bottles before I pour it in, so whatever is sitting at the bottom stays there. Some of my stock could be as much as 2yrs old, but the lack of sales, it's dwindled down to a few months old.

Pennzoil Platinum is a great oil in its own right, and at the price point it is at is even better. Id say its the best oil for the money out there right now. The majority opinion over on BITOG is similar. Its an easy 7500 hwy mile oil.

Anyone wanting this deal, click on the link and visit your auto parts store before November 31, 2009. Thanks for the link.

I'm sure Pennzoil is fine but through most of my car knowledge life I've herar things here and there about Penzoil which has always made me shy away from it but it was always about their dino oil and not their Syn.

I just recently had my valve cover off after 152,000 miles and things looked really good and zero sludge buildup using Mobile 1 the last 53,000 miles I've owned it and the previous owner claimed he used it since it had 35k on the odo so I haven't found a reason to change and I got 5qts from Wally World for $22.
I use PureOne filters also.

They dide have Castrol Syntec for $19.

This thread is a bit dated, but it deserves a bump for this. Thought I'd pass it along to those interested....

Also...

5qts Castrol GTX & Purolator filter for $4.99 after $10 MIR (limit 2)

I got an e-mail today, my Pep Boys rebate was mailed today. Those are great deals for this Friday and I would think Pep Boys would not be crowded. My Pep Boys is too far away from home to be useful.
