Touch-up paint - wrong color?
I've got a Galactic Grey Mica 06, and the official paint code is 1E9, according to the dealer as well as my door label. So I ordered the touch-up paint from the dealer parts counter ($12!), and touched up a couple of the chips on my sides. Trouble is as soon as the paint dries, it turns several shades lighter. Has anyone else experienced this (with any color)? I'm guessing I just got a bad batch of paint. I've attached some pics, post sanding, polish and wax.

Touch up paint is not spot on. It's a close match, but you can definately tell it's been touched up upon closer examination, especially with metallic colors.

That's to be expected, but this one doesn't even look close to me. Do the pics look like an acceptable match to you?

Your first pic is fairly close to what touched up areas look like on mine in terms of difference in color. I agree, the second pic, the color is way off. Granted, all three of my Toyotas are silver, the damage is small, and it being a lighter color it doesn't stand out as much. On my 4Runner, the are mainly chips, so the largest chip is no larger than half a grain of rice.

I bought some touch up paint from the dealer once, even though it was the right color code/part number the paint itself wasn't even close to being the right color. PLEASE NOTE-I always try touch up paint on the door jam before the actual touch up job itself. My experience in the commercial print industry and looking at "color" for the past 30 years have taught me this!
I ordered another "tube" and the color was spot on.
So it does happen...sometimes you get the wrong color.

I just used some Toyota touch up paint for my topaz metallic trim and I couldn't have gotten a better match. It was about as dead on as touch up paint can be

hi,
I am a new 4runner owner, just last week. I took a road trip this weekend and got a rock chip in my hood. So in searching last night for touch up paint i found this forum and joined. I ordered some touch up paint from the site listed in this thread, and was wondering if anyone could help me out with directions on how to fix this chip. I have a 2010 silver 4runner. Thanks for the help.

Touch it up as you would normally. I use LANGKA Paint Chip and Scratch Repair to eliminate the "blob" and make it less noticeable.

Hey i have the same color as you and the same touch up paint and it is the same. It really depends on the depth of the scratch and the light etc, its pretty close on mine. To me it's more important to seal up the chip against rust etc Noone can really tell unless they look really close anyway. (It only bothers me im trying to learn not to be so anal lol).
Could try another light layer on top and see if that makes the color match better.

I had the exact same experience with my 05 using Toyota galactic grey. Spent a lot of time on several chips and even clear coated over them. It looks terrible. It looks like silver and not near dark enough. My main objective was to stop the rust but I ordered from Toyota because I thought I would get a better match. I also ordered some spray from an aftermarket company to fix a bigger area on the roof. I'm interested to see if its a better match.
