Red face '96 4Runner makes 'humming' sound after I turn off engine-help

Anyone know or have had the same issue with their 1996 4runner - when the get to their destination, under the hood is a humming sound, kind of like and low grade electrical charge? I have looked under the hood and try to pinpoint where the noise is coming from, it appears it coming from a black box on the drivers side of the engine. I'm not sure what that box is.

The noise stops after 5 - 10 minutes. At first my engine didn't make that sound all the time after I turn off the engine, but now it seems to make the noise almost everytime I use my 4runner.

Anyone have any ideas? what is that black box?

The noise is the black box reporting your destination to the government.

bumblebees?

Completely normal. I've actually never heard it on my 3rd gen but happened on my old 95 after every shutdown.

Don't let it worry anyone.

I'm surprised because either I've been wrong this whole time, or this is a simple answer.

I'm pretty sure it's just the radiator fan or some other fan that is staying on. My VW used to do this too, and it was always literally blowing hot air from the engine underneath the car body, especially during hot weather.

Mine does it as well! Doesn't seem to be too big of a deal. Although its a bit odd that it does it on its own on a hot day when I haven't even driven anywhere.

Exclamation Happy off road frog under the hood.

Just about every time I shut my 4runner off a happy off road frog speaks up and says "send it" "send it". Lol. I'm starting to think it's nothing to worry about. I don't have any problems with my 97 limited it's never let me down in the short time I've owned it. It's my first. It's a 3rd gen and before I got it I had intentions of selling it. Since I've had it i have pushed it's limits and yet to be disappointed. More amazed actually. I tried posting pics of her but wouldn't upload. It's got to be the cleanest in New England lol.
