Using an Aquamist water mist system is fairly common amongst the WRX/STI and EVO tuning community. The water does exactly what you said. By reducing the pre-detonation risk they can tune the cars more aggressively without going to race gas (105 octane).

I believe that URD has a water mist system listed on their website for use with the supercharger.

Regular vs premium gas with V8

I posted here a long time ago.....I was getting better mpg on mid range gas according to my trip computer. When gas prices went wild I switched to regular only.

Per the trip monitor (not manual check) I get between 19 and 21.2 mpg on highway trips.....running about 70mph....regular gas only.

It doesn't degrade much around town.....but I mostly drive in smallish cities without huge traffic jams or stop and go.

The V8 engine just rocks.....I drive on the interstate for long stretches and off road as well (I'm a land developer) and the vehicle is awesome. I have had to pull my stuck Kubota tractor out of ditches using the 4 Runner several times!

2005 4Runner V8. 90,600 miles.
(I run full synthetic oil....changed every 6-7k miles)

Just got my V8 T4R this week. The owners manual states regular and use of premium is only required if you want "performance." Anyone else here used Shell or Chevron or other Toptier Gas retailers? I use Shell since it's cheaper than the fuel at the local 7-Eleven/Citgo with 10% ethanol.

I can really tell the difference in performance between running 87 and 93, so i go with the 93. its only 4 dollars more to fill the tank so i think its worth it.

Avoid the ethanol blends.

Ethanol blends provide less performance....and the environmental benefit is all hype.....with all the land, water and energy used to grow and process the corn to produce the ethanol, it is a net negative from an environmental point of view.

Ok here's my take on it.

For my 94 Ranger with 240,XXX miles on it: it doesn't make one sh*t of a difference, so I go with low grade. I only use it for wheelin' anyway.

For my 99 Corolla with 63,XXX miles on it: I can only get it up to ~103mph when I am on low grade. On high grade, I make well above 110mph. I don't know how much above, because the clock only goes to 110. I use high grade for that alone, plus I don't want the engine to knock (not that I know half as much as some of you do about the matter). When I drop in the turbo I have sitting in the garage, I will stick to high grade.

For my 06 4Runner with 11,XXX miles on it: I use high grade because it doesn't cost a whole lot more (maybe 25 cents a gallon max), and I feel like the whole truck performs better when I do. Plus, look what it does for my Corolla lol, why the heck wouldn't I. Now on the 4Runner, I can get past 110mph without breaking a sweat...even on low grade. But I figure, I'm probably going a lot faster on high grade if what my Corolla does is "normal". Again, I'll stick to my high grade when I put the turbo system in. And the manual says "for better performance", so I figure that's a good excuse too.

Oh...and my mommy pays for my platinum credit card. That makes a big difference too

kylebacc, i noticed your signature. Funny thing is this, Mine is a V8, and mine is 4WD, and i'm only 18 too. Mine was only $200 more than yours too since we got it for invoice price.

Besides, the hood scoop on sport editions is just way cool.

I hate you. lol

I can't lie, the hood scoop looks cool as hell, and you better believe I'm getting the sport hood

And tight work on your truck bro, I wish I had exactly what you do, really. I'm used to being in last place though...where I'm from, both you and I would look like jokes. But I'm not worried about it, because I worked for it, and I paid for it...in cash, with lots to spare. And no, my parents didn't buy it for me.

Anyway, not trying to go off on some money war here. But again, you're a lucky summa***** lol

I paid for it cash too, but i had a little help from my mom. I used her credit score to get me the invoice price through a credit union. So even though I paid for it, she saved me like 7 grand. So that's the only reason I got a 4WD V8 Sport for the same price as your SR5.

But hey man a 4runner is a 4runner. And thanks for the compliments. It should look way better after I put the nitto's on this saturday.

I will. I need to take pictures of the weather tech vent visors that I put on too. They make it look more aggressive, almost like my truck looks pissed off.

I don't right now actually, but it's bone stock for the time being. It will be at least next year by the time I can start mods. But I am trying to finish up my corolla right now. Don't worry...it's coming eventually
