Exclamation Breaking your car in rules?

Hey guys. My 4runner is running just great.
Driving with my friends makes it tempting to just floor my pedal.
(He has a 04` Maxima. yes its fast)
BUT> is it okay to do that?
I heard you shouldnt go over 3rpm.
Only after you run 3K miles.
Are these true? I mean its commen sense but whats the minimum mileage you need in order to "rev" your engines?

Some people just drive it like the clappers from the showroom floor. I would say do at least 1k miles and go do an oil/filter change and then just drive it. After 1k and an oil/filter change you should be fine.

I noticed on my V8 that it actually ran better after 10k miles, so it takes some time to completely break in.

did you notice any metal particles in the used oil after your first oil change at 1k miles?

Same way you break in any vehicle......pack it full of chicks and beer and haul ass around town with the windows down blaring "Thunderstruck." - or is that just me?

Manual says break in period = 1,600kms (~1,000 miles). Vary the revs i.e. no long periods of idling or staying at 1 rpm level for an hour. Other's subsribe to the "flog it" method, and beat on it from day 1. I don't like to baby new engines for too long, because most of the real ring setting is done in the first few miles. Therefore, by not putting some decent load on it, you'll never get the rings/cylinder walls to fully set in right......just my thoughts from what I've read over the years. I might avoid doing loooong highway pulls at WOT for the first 1,000 miles, but putting your foot in it or going over 3,000rpm won't hurt anything.

Manual says 8,000kms for first oil change, if you want to do it sooner you obviously won't hurt anything.
