Ramp options

Im trying to get everything together to change my oil myself for the for the first time and was looking into ramps. I keep getting mental pictures of it failing so what are some good ramps yall have tried. Some places we have around here are Orieley auto parts, advance auto, auto zone tractor supply, agri supply, napa and walmart ;).

Which ones have you had good luck with? I even considered using a 2x12 or 2x10 layered to make a solid block and just cut a 20 to 30 degree angle on the boards with a piece of rubber on the bottom. It would weigh a ton but wouldnt fail and i could get any height i wanted. I saw one at agri supply that you could remove the ramp from to give you more room and to use for a chock on the other set of tires. Looked like a good idea unless the vehicle somehow rolled off. On the wood design i could make a chock that just dropped in place with pins. The rubber i had in mind was some 3/8" i bought from tractor supply to go under my safe. I assume it was for some kind of floor covering.

So what do yall think?

Ramps

I own (4) Rhino ramps and they are awesome.

I put 2 down up front, pull the truck forward until the front tires just start to touch the ramps, put the truck in park jump out and grab the other 2 ramps and put them in front of the 2 rear tires, then pull the truck up on all 4 ramps.

Keeps the truck level and makes it super easy for doing things like oil changes, transmission fluid changes, driveshaft lube, diff fluid changing etc..

I too own Rhino Ramps, i use them for oil changes and drive shaft lube. So far so good, seem really sturdy and i feel completely safe that they will hold up. You could always slide a couple jack stands under there too if you have high jack stands, just for precaution.

PLEASE DO THIS!!! Even if they aren't "high" jack stands, something that is 12-18" tall is going to help if SHTF.

Failure of the ramp is not only limited to the ramp collapsing. It also involves the ramp kicking out. This is exactly what happened to my neighbor 6 years ago. He isn't around to see his twin boys graduate this year.

After reading some reviews where the Rhino ramps exploded as a few of them said i think im gong to go with my wood one. I think ill go with 2x12's and set them 5 or 6 tall. I keep forgetting to check my miter saw angle so i may be limited on the angle of the ramp since i cant cut the 12" vertically. I may have to make it a series of 45 degree cuts and make it like steps instead. Now my issue is will my wife's CAR be able to make it that high and not bottom out.

Going by my quick google sketchup drawing im looking at about 13' of board for each ramp so say about $30 for the set of ramps not counting the Rubber i would put on the bottom for grip. I think thats about $7 per 1' x4' wide piece. That gives you a 7.5 " lift, 14" x 11.5" flat platform and a 17 degree approach.

How does that sound to yall? The 2x12 should be pretty stable.
