Pads ... Pads and Rotors ... Pads, Rotors, and Calipers??
Hello All,
I was driving the other day with my windows down and when I hit the brakes next to a building, I heard a faint squeak from the front brakes (radio wasn't loud enough :-) )
So, now it is time to replace some of my break components.
My 4Runner is a 2006 Sport Edition with 75,000 miles on it.
Anyway, I am curious if most people just replace their break pads or if everyone does pads and rotors at the same time.
Also, do most people do the front and rear brakes, or just the front?
From what I remember, the front breaks do most of the work.
Of course, I will be crossing my fingers the whole time that I don't have a stuck piston on any of my calipers.
Thanks for the help!!

I did the front pads and rotors last fall and I am now going to do the rear pads and rotors. I read that it is best to do both because if your rotors are warped you can ruin your new pads. If you need some guidance Ducman did a great write up in the Maint. section.

Also,
Does anyone have any brands they like?
OE Replacements are $60 for a set of front pads and $240 for a set of front rotors.
I was thinking of looking into some non OE options.

Rotors should be fine. Don't waste your money, if you car stops consistently. If you are at all concerned, get the rotors turned, ~$15 each. Way cheaper than replacing the rotors. I opted for the slightly upgraded pads from Carquest. Think they had a better warranty and didn't cost much more.

After reading up a bit, I figured the rotors should be fine.
I don't get any shudder in the steering wheel while breaking or anything like that. Brakes feel strong, just starting to squeak that little bit.
It is hard for me to image the large cast iron rotors having to be replaced so (relatively) soon.
Thinking about having them turned once I see what they look like coming off the car.

They can go bad. My mazda had the rotors turned at 15k, 25k and 37k. All done by the dealer. I finally replaced them at 45k when they were warped again...

No particular brand, It's been about 2 years since I put them in my Prerunner. I think I paid about 40 bucks for them on Ebay.

If you want ceramics, go with Wagner thermoquiets. They have some sort of rebate at Adv auto parts, and also, you can get a free set when you wear down the thermoquiets. They have pretty good stopping power, and Ive been running them hard up here in the mountains. Otherwise, you are good with wearever golds.
As for rotors, you may want to change them out, just so you have a fresh set. Go with the wearever brand from adv auto also, but check on dealnews . com and look for a coupon. Adv auto has varying deals every week, like 40$ off 100, or 50 off 120, and the rotors will cost 120 per axle (60 a piece). So, if you order online, and use the promo code, you can save a big chunk of change (Im all about saving money nowadays, and they are great online.)

Happy to report that the brake job is done. Installed the Wagner thermoquiets with no trouble at all. Did not replace or turn the calipers and everything feels great!! Not even a single stuck piston in the calipers.
Thanks everyone for your help!!
