Northern Virginia Area Trails?

Looking for some trail recommendations. I'll be coming home for Christmas and be there basically from the beginning of December until the first week of January. Looking for some good trails to run.

Not really interested in mud trails or anything like that, but not against sections that require you to go through mud. Not looking for a trail that's going to break anything of course as I have to drive back to CA, but moderate is definitely okay.

I have a 2017 4Runner, family member has an 06 Sequoia. I'll have a 2" lift (3 front 2 back) w/ 285/70/17's. Not sure the tire size of the other vehicle (though they are AT's), but know it'll have a similar lift.

I've read up on the GWNF a bit, but the maps are a little more confusing to here. For instance one section has a ton of trails, but apparently only two are vehicle friendly. Peter Mills and Taskers Gap I believe were the only vehicle friendly ones.

I was thinking of possibly Bald Mountain as that looks somewhat moderate, but besides that I can't seem to find anything that has some good views for the trail.

Thanks!

PetersMill is a very easy trail and is part of the GWNF .Flagpole has been reworked into a mostly gravel/dirt road for most of the trail from what I hear .

Where's the best place to go for more moderate stuff? I don't mind dirt roads as long as it leads to something decent, or has good scenery, but I'd also like to feel like I'm off-roading too, and not on a forest road.

I would say Bald Mountain if you want to stay close to N Va if you want a ORV park Rausch Creek In Pennsylvania which will have all levels of difficulty

Actually looks pretty doable. Looks like there's only one or two rough sections. At least if I'm comparing it to what I'm used to here in CA. Might actually do this one.

Am I reading it correctly that this can be done in a loop? At least you go off from 617 and it reconnects? Not an out-and-back?

Thanks.

Yeah it is about 17 miles and should be doable. Last time I did it was in one of my other off road rides. A 2000 Jeep Wrangler with a long arm kit and 37's. Spool rear and arb front locker etc. It wasn't tough at all in the Jeep. It is a loop and there is camping avail first come first serve.

The trail itself doesn't look terrible. But those side obstacles definitely look crazy. I wouldn't test those out more than likely.

Would you recommend Peters Mill Run for a first-time off-roader? I bought my 2019 TRD Off Road last month, and I'm eager to hit the trails.

Congrats on the TRD OffRoad!

I believe you could, but I don't recommend going alone on your initial outing.
It's the season and plenty of small groups head out that way from NoVa/Md/Richmond. I suggest hooking up with one of those groups.

Some local Toy groups are:
Hi-luX Surf Offroad group on FB
CLCC group on IH8Mud

Enjoy!
