I still miss it. I'll hopefully pick one up in the next couple of years. A two door 5speed would be great, or a 1995 Limited with a sunroof/5speed would also be great. Love the styling on these, never really loved the 3rd gens much.

I agree. The 2nd gens had beautiful styling that was also very, very simple. A 3.4 swapped 1995 with leather, sunroof, and a 5speed is very very high on my want list. I really miss my 2nd gen, even though I'm in a 100 series land cruiser now.

Sold the 4Runner to an awesome guy named Josh. Hope he gets many more miles out of the white stallion.. I missed 202 Black Onyx so much I bought a 2003 LX470 with 225k.

You could try loosing the nut on the pinion to see if makes a different. PITA iirc since its staked. Definitely a possibility.

Wheel bearings? How are your u-joints? I know my wheel bearings howled before they broke (heavy water driving thru 3 feet of water, rubber water retainer failed). Bad u-joints typically come with a vibration, but sometimes it just sounds like you're flying a single-engine aircraft.

I just did something similar, but I swapped the harnesses. I did cut and solder, but it works so much better. I only "swapped" since I have a BanditRunner bumper and some great amber LEDs in my marker lights. Very visible from the side and front. Swapped driving lights/blinker functionality...
