I always used the rear window defroster on mine. Also learned to carry the best windshield washer fluid (-60 below) in an old Dish Soap squeeze bottle. Oh and I never let the quick lube places add windshield washer - it ALWAYS froze, think they water it down. I would fill it with my stuff before...
I have 2 used heads off my 1989 3VZE, if that will help, email me.
What I did was buy 2 heads from the junk yard - had them reworked - then swapped them out to minimize my down time. Still took about 30 hours. But the machine shop took a couple 3 weeks.
