I made sure wiring was correct following the diagram. The headunit I removed was an older aftermarket pioneer head, not OEM. When I replaced it speakers worked perfectly. Can't think of what it may be. Gonna give in and take it to the shop.

Thanks, I'll definitely check the fuses . Bought an aftermarket wiring harness as well (Toyota specific and correct years), and color matched wiring according to that. Are you saying that harness and my new stereo will have different wiring schematics? Thanks again for all the help!
