I just had a Compustar Pro R3 2Way 2 Mile installed on 11-24-18 and the thing starts from my desk in warehouse. 2012 4 runner Limited.
Other remote start I had, I would have to go upfront to lobby to start truck.2001 4 Runner.
Pricey with installation but warrantied as long as I own vehicle...
Sounds like you were sitting on top of hardened snow and undercarriage was supporting most of the vehicle. I wouldn't panic and think 4x4 isn't working.
