Quick truggy update. Finished painting, bed, bedsides/fenders, trunk, tailgate and SAS. Only missing front drive shaft at the moment. Thinking of naming this one "Bessie" because it steers like a cow :D

    Fording Rivers and Streams

Alternator is a problem. Not sure about latest models, earlier Toyota alternators would shut down when it detected a short, thenwould work fine once dried out. Many if not most alternators on other cars will simply fry the regulator if you dunk it and you need to carry a spare. But uh, fording...

I finally got the truggy back!! Just in time for the hottest part of the year to do more work on it myself :P All the piping was starting to rust (Though was mostly covered with oil. So First thing was to wash all the oil off the tubing, and the cab, scotchbrite everything and and primer the...

What are these front receiver hitches for?

Cant really tow a 4runner like that (unless you detach the rear drive shaft). They are frequently used to maneuver trailers in tight spaces, yards, boat ramps etc. Can also be used with a receiver winch or as a recovery point with a D-Ring receiver (Or just a receiver pin) Could also be used...

    Towing dirt bikes

I used to haul dirt bikes and I used a three slot bike hauler. Super light , easy to use, could tow it with any vehicle with 4 wheels :D Yes it was open but that didn't really bother me because typically the hauls were short (2 hours or so) As for the 5th gen, I haul a 1700 pound collapsible...

Oh nice! Heh I could use the same kit :D The truggy is still at the fabricators, but they are on the last segment of the build so hopefully I'll have it back soon. Thanks for the info!

THanks! And nice about the 92 :D The one thing I am still debating is what to do on the front. Long travel or SAS. I know why I would do one or the other, meaning what the main purpose of the vehicle is. I just can't make up my mind about what I really want from it. Rationally I think it'll be...

Knocking at start up in reverse...

Long shot, but I had something similar. Turned out to the the exhaust contacting the skid-plate, only in reverse. (Very close tolerance). May not be a skid plate but may be something mechanical (exhaust hanger, heat-shield etc) somewhere along the exhaust line that makes contact when in reverse...

The FauxRunner truggy is still at the fabricators and I'm chomping at the bit for it's return! I was warned that it would only be worked on 2 days a week though. So far the work is looking really nice.Might be about half done.

    Axel wrap!

Why does he unbolt it for off-roading? Seems like it would be even more useful in 4 low as the axle wrap would be even worse. Does it limit articulation too much? Or increase the chance of grenading your diff too much?

SO to answer my own question... Dropzone Gave me this URL 79-95 4WD Pickup Truck Traction Bar, & 84-89 1st Gen 4Runner | BudBuilt After doing a little more searching around this did seem to be the way to go so I ordered a weld on version!

Axel wrap! Ok so... I put on a long travel rear leaf kit. Removed a couple leafs to soften ride (And actually attain some of that long travel) So now the axle wrap is palpable. Feel it mostly going from 3rd to 4rth and REALLY bad when slowing down from high speed. So I know that "ladder bars"...

Yes actually I do have it. :D probably not as impressive from my angle and distance as it would have been from the front, but it is a little shocking how quickly you flip down the other side of the hill :)
