need help - bleeding coolant system problems

A compression test isn't necessarily going to indicate a HG issue. A real world test is to drive it on the highway for 30 - 45 mins at 70mph... does it overheat? After you have driven it for awhile... any auto parts store sells a kit to check for exhaust gas in the coolant. That's where I...

need help - bleeding coolant system problems

A 3VZ-E with a gutted ( but not totally missing) thermostat is an old trick to keep it from overheating. That means the seller knew that there was a problem and it probably the #6 spot on the driver side head gasket. I ran my previous 3VZ-E for quite a while with a leaky HG before replacing...

    I'm new! 1990 V6 5speed 4wd. Hello 2nd gens!

Most people want 4:56's or 4:88's... you should be able to find a 4:10 if you are persistent. Also consider that your speedo will be off with a different gear ratio. I live in Texas and I bought a third member from Washington state on ebay 2 years ago. Shipping was actually pretty cheap and...

    engine questions....

I almost bought one of those engines but went with a stock reman unit after reading the warranty fine print. It may be a great engine but I had my doubts about the durability and didn't want more issues sooner than later.

T4R is NOT an OFF Road Vehicle!

2 things... 1 - The Op needs to have the word "lexus" removed from his user name so that everyone else here can better understand who they are dealing with. 2 - The OP should never be allowed to work on a vehicle again.

    Fat Bob's Garage - 2" Lift Kit

My 4runner rides and handles well on the street. I hit the beach a few times a year (this thing loves the sand) and light trails are a non issue. I don't rock climb or anything too extreme. The lift and tires are the best thing that I did to change the over all attitude of the truck. The CV...

    No Power

What were you driving before? Nevermind... it doesn't matter. 2nd gens seem to have a less power to weight ratio of practically any vehicle on the planet. Except a Samurai... lol.

    Fat Bob's Garage - 2" Lift Kit

The kit that they sent me consisted of 2" BJ spacers, OME coils, ES 3000 shocks and a diff drop kit. It worked out well for me... but I ended up not installing the diff drop in favor of ground clearance.

    Fat Bob's Garage - 2" Lift Kit

That's what I have on my 95 4Runner. Here is a before pic with 28" tires & stock height to after pic with 33"s & 2" lift.

    89 4runner towing?

I do it several times a year with my 95. I have a V6 / auto / 4:88's and 33"s. I turn off the overdrive and shift the tranny manually. Keep an eye on your temp gage... if it starts creeping, slow down.

    3.0 question

Is the engine out of the truck? I don't think you will be able to get the passenger side head on with studs.

    EGR Temp Sensor Diagnostics

I think I saw yours on Austin craigslist a while back? Has it ever been non sluggish to you? 3.slo's with automatics are notoriously underpowered. Try driving it while manually shifting the tranny. That's what I do... around town, I mostly leave it in 2nd gear.

    1995 4Runner ground issue?

Since you removed the ignition fuse and it still tries to start on it's own... that tells me that it's getting 12 volts from somewhere else. I would look around for some melted wires. Pull the starter relay and see if the phantom starts go away.

    EGR Temp Sensor Diagnostics

You do realize that the 10k resistor needs to be connected across (between) the wires back to the ECM right? Also... it doesn't matter which way those 2 wires are hooked up to the EGR temp sensor. It's just a temperature resistor in the circuit. The 3.slo is not known for great power or gas...
