    2008 Toyota 4Runner V8 unknown issue

Probably because there's many times the number of these exact same V8s that came in Tundras than there were in 4Runners.

License plate light for safety & science

Search for a "Rear Window LED Car Sign" and put whatever message you want. Not saying it won't still piss some tailgating jerk off but it won't get you a ticket when you find out that jerk is a LEO.

How many miles until your original alternator and/or starter failed?

A little over 215K for me. Replaced it with a rebuilt Denso I bought through Napa online shipped to home which took 3 days (2 days faster than their 'reserve online pickup at store option). With free shipping and a deduction for an online purchase promo and after returning the core to my nearest...

Good looking, clear headlights - how??

I got them at Olathe Toyota. 'Toyota Parts Center' is their online store. I picked them up in person as I drive near there on my way to KC once or twice a month anyway. In Jan this year they were $215 each. I just looked at their website and now they're $270. Also at that time they were a couple...

Good looking, clear headlights - how??

I used a 3M kit and some extra 2500 and 5000 sandpaper and the clear coat product in the kit and got them looking what I thought was pretty good but a year later they looked quite foggy again so this year I broke down and bought two new OEM ones for just north of $200 each. Pricey, yes, but they...

Strippted Front Diff Drain Plug Removal Tips (aka: what not to do)

Thanks to having read a few threads like this when I started to wallow mine out I was ready with a backup plan. When I did get it out replaced that cursed 10mm Allen drain plug with the Lexus version (90341-24016) that has a 14mm hex bolt head instead. ...

Full Synthetic Gear Oil change interval

Bought my 4th gen at 100k with little to no known history so I changed both diffs & transfer case with valvoline synpower 75w-90 & a cooler hose flush of toyota ATF-SW in the transmission. Now here I am hitting 200K so I'm about to do a repeat. Just waiting now for the weather to break on a day...

    What's your transmission servicing regime?

+1 This at 100k & getting ready to do my ~200k, except I also did a drain and fill at 150k, so had to pick 'other' in the poll. FWIW I also pulled the pan to clean the magnets and replace the filter at 100K. Haven't decided yet if I'm going to do that again this time, or ever. I've seen people...

    Do I have a LSD?

If you have a limited slip diff in a 4th Gen your rear diff should have a tag saying so above the fill plug, at least that's what I gather from the TSB.

    What gear oil? V8 4th gen 4x4

AFAICT, and I'm not sure if the difference matters or not, Toyota specifies API GL–5 SAE 75W–85 (per TSB DL003-07) in the front and rear differentials and it matters if you have a limited slip diff or not in the rear, and API GL-5 SAE 75W-90 in the transfer case. Prior to the TSB Toyota...
