Best Way to Black Out Chrome

Interesting - that’s what I imagined would happen so I used vinyl wrap on my front chrome. Then I figured plasti-dip would be a low risk experiment on my rear garnish. It may be because the front gets more abuse than the back, but the plasti dip is holding up better than the vinyl wrap. Car...

Limited - Black out the rear tailgate garnish

I was contemplating switching with an OEM black garnish, but it’s a considerable amount of work to replace it. I ended up trying plasti dip and it’s held up really well for 3 years now - plenty of wear and tear testing with car washes and MN winters.

    5th Gen For Sale/Wanted Thread

As mentioned earlier in the thread, finally got around to posting the Midnight Metallic Limited Rocker Panels, Rocker Supports, and Automatic Running Boards. Automatic Running Boards (SOLD). Rockers have been trimmed slightly in the front to accommodate 285/70r17s but otherwise only have minor...

Pre-Owned Limited Power Running Boards Just took off my power running boards assemblies. They work fine, good condition, but my wife and daughter would prefer fixed running boards to enter the car. I’ll probably end up with SR5 rockers and Trail Running Boards. Is there any market for...

    Helping out a buddy..2015 w/X-REAS..delete?

Subscribed. I’ve removed the XREAS and replaced it with Bilsteins, but haven’t messed with the sway bars yet (it wasn’t on my radar). I replaced the rear links with aftermarket stock size because one broke in the process of adding lift springs. The 4Runner seems to drive ok without the...

    Helping out a buddy..2015 w/X-REAS..delete?

I removed my system a bit backwards. Removed the banjos on each of the shocks and let them drain. I replaced the shocks first and drove around for a little while with the lines still in place. I watched the 4th gen video for removing the lines and did that this weekend. Everything went...

What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Took it out to Mount Rainier National Park yesterday. (No, the parking lot isn’t that steep - I just couldn’t rotate the photo) Today I removed the remaining XREAS lines and shipped it off to our new home in the Twin Cities. I guess now I’ll have to take extra precautions for rust prevention.

What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Fit a 285/70R17 in the spare location. It’s like the one modification I did to this 4Runner that worked the first time.

    Blacking Out the Runner's Chrome

I suppose I’ve tried a variety of ways to black out chrome now. Most recently, I tried my hand at plasti dip. It came out well, so we’ll see how durable it is. The front chrome has been vinyl wrapped or covered with the Heritage Grille (CTH knock off). The roof rails have been powder coated...

    Wheeler's T-12 & New T-13 Rear Lift Coils!

I had the T-13s installed on my limited and only got .5-.75” of lift. I don’t have any armor or extra weight. Wheelers said it may be due to the third row seating and sent me T-12s to swap. I’m not sure if the T-13s had an issue, but the T-12s gave me almost 2.5” of lift. Paired with my...

Old Manu Emu upper control arms - anyone running these? They look easy to maintain

I just spoke with ARB over the phone and got some answers. They confirmed that there isn’t much published maintenance information available to the public at this time, so unfortunately I guess you’ll just have to take my word at this time if you are considering these UCAs. They confirmed that...
