What's the acronym for TRE? Tie rod ends? Sorry, end of day and exhausted, can't seem to think. I'll jack up the car tomorrow and start looking. Will take a jab at it and if I can't seem to find anything on my own, I'll bring it to the alignment shop to get their take. Thanks for the advice

what are the components of a rack and pinion? If this did hit the wheel at the position it was in, it would likely pull the tie rod and/or inner rod connected to the rack. but what's inside the rack?

I'll check the ball joints. My only front end work was when i lifted it about a year ago. I changed the lower ball joints and that was about it. Original tie rods, axles, etc.
