That is definitely your problem. That hole is enabling a whole lot of extra air to get in, which in turn is killing your 4runner. I would run to a junkyard and get another one.....

Sometimes people will take and change the spark plugs and wires and forget to hook up the MAF sensor all the way. It will not run without it hooked up, but sometimes its not in all the way. Just a suggestion. Do you have a check engine light on?
