A crude wiring job could definitely drain battery or even blow fuses. Trust me. It happened with my radio recently. I had to undo everything and redo the wiring right.
This was my very first thread. Hopefully it will answer your problems!

Ok thanks to everyone's great responses, it seems as if i have fixed the problem! So i took apart the radio and found that some of the power and ground wires had electrical tape that had literally melted off over time leaving some of the wire and soldering exposed. So i undid everything...
I've had toyota check it twice when i had the 10a fuse back properly instead of the 30a when i got back home from the trip and everything was working fine again (they checked it once during the next oil change and again when the battery died recently). I didn't keep the 30a in for long. I...
Thanks for all the great responses so far guys! Yes i used the metra kit, and there were some wires that weren't used. I also bypassed the parking brake. I'm trying to remember what i did with the ground wire. The thing is i installed the radio over a year ago, but like i said before some wires...
ok thanks for the responses guys! I know it was stupid to put that 30a fuse in. I didn't even think about doing that, but the folks at autozone suggested using a higher amp just to get it working again to get back home when i was still in Albuquerque during that road trip and i didnt think about...
no replies? anyways i was thinking, could my aftermarket pioneer bt3300 radio/headunit cause this problem? I'm thinking of taking it out and inspecting all the wires. Maybe something came loose overtime and is causing a short? some of those wires were only kept together using electrical tape.

Basically that thread is about how my tail fuse kept blowing when i was returning from this past summer's road trip (to make it back...
Ok i replaced that fuse with a higher power fuse and everything works. I used a 30a fuse froautozone in alberquerqe (spelling?). I tried 10a and it kept blowing. Now im using a 30a. Is the power lighter in the trunk on the same system as the taillights? Because i had a outlet converter plugged...
