I had an '86 22re pick up with the same exact issue. Truthfully, i'd just sell it. But also I was getting annoyed of topping off my oil every 500 miles. I started doing oil changes with 15w-40 diesel oil. It helped a ton with the oil consumption, but instead of every 500 miles of topping off...

I'd also try to check your battery connections. Make sure there no corrosion at the terminals, and make sure they are tight.
