How involved is the switch replacement?

At most, you'll only need to use a longer ratchet/breaker bar/cheater pipe to remove fasteners secured with Loctite 271 (aka "red"). It holds better than blue, but can be easily removed with hand tools. Trust me, or try it yourself...

Hand tools can be easily used to remove fasteners secured with red Loctite. I've done it many times over the years.

Get yourself a Toyota specific filter wrench from Motivx Tools. They work great, and "grab" both the ears on the housing, and the flutes. That, plus a 27mm socket to turn the filter wrench, and a breaker bar or "cheater" (pipe over a ratchet handle) will take care of tight filter housings...

I took the rack off and apart (very easy - only simple hand tools and a T25 Torx bit required), and had my silver side rails powder coated in a satin black. It cost $50, and that's well worth it IMO, especially when compared to less durable options like PlastiDip, vinyl, and spray paint.
