Stranger things have happened, friend. It's worth checking. But I also had a similar problem for a while, turns out my driver's side CV axle was bound up and needed replacing. Put a new one in and the problem went away.

How hard it was driven, oil / gas used, and good ol' "Luck-O'-The-Draw". 241,000 Miles on my 97' SR5 by the way, never needed anything outside of fluid changes and timing belts, as well as the occasional plugs / wires. Nothing remotely outside of regular maintenance.
