MyFJ had the 4.0 and I went back and forth with premium and regular and never noticed a difference either way. My fourth gen has a V8 and I run regular. Just run regular unless your OCD won't let you put regular in there. Lol
Most of the vehicles on the road probably fall into this camp. I think it's mostly the enthusiast like us that frequent these boards that worry about such things. Especially using name brand synthetics and debating which one is better than the other. Lol
Yep, like already stated it sounds like a thin piece of sheet metal. Get under there and start banging, pulling, and pushing in stuff until you figure it out. If you can trust someone to put their foot on the brake where you get under there or at least on the side of it with your ear under there...
Check Amazon for their "used" section on these also, I bought mine this way listed in "like new" condition and they were obviously just returns, never installed. Got them for about $75 a piece for the fronts.
Great write up, thank you!
How tight did you tighten the clamps? I know it's hard to say exactly but I used a 1/4" drive ratchet/socket but didn't want to go too tight. Got a little leakage and used a screwdriver until I couldn't turn anymore. No leakage since. I also wrapped electrical tape...
The OE alternator on the FJ I used to own stopped making sufficient voltage to even run the engine at 105k miles. I'm assuming it's the same part as the T4R.
The spring doesn't compress more, it's perch just sits higher, the truck moves up accordingly so there is no more increased compression the spring. I am on the 3rd perch with stock springs and I would almost describe the ride as plush with zero harshness.
1.75 in the front with stock springs netted me 2" of lift and I had reverse rake. Added ome 895e springs in the rear with a trim packer on the driver's side and it sits perfect to me now with a little rake.
I pulled off the road in a snowstorm in Utah and went to get back on the road and had some wheel spin and I think that driver front when it hit the pavement wore down a couple of the lugs slightly. The rest of the lugs are still in perfect condition. Balance feels spot on.
So I've got about 750 total miles on my new tires. About 700 miles after the lift and alignment, most of those miles being highway. I did do a pretty ricky off-road trail but took it pretty slow. I have a little wear starting to show on only a few lugs on the outside edge of the drivers front...
