Finally getting an engine for the 4runner!

Thanks so much for actually replying to my questions Sam. I'm going to start the 90 full intake swap after work tomorrow and will hopefully be installing the motor on Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes. Hopefully I won't have more questions in the meantime haha

Finally getting an engine for the 4runner!

Ok so I decided to say screw the pai. So today I pulled my 87 22re and sealed the full intake and exhaust onto the 1990 as well as the ac compressor. Then while tightening the two 10mm bolts that hold the metal heater tube into the bottom of the intake, I twisted the head off one of them. So I...

Finally getting an engine for the 4runner!

Ok, It looks like there are block off plates on my 87 manifold so I will just use that. Is that all I have to do? Do I need to block off where it enter on the intake side or just remove tha little metal box it runs into and the black plastic canister that is connected to the metal box? Once that...

Finally getting an engine for the 4runner!

Thanks for the reply sam Have any idea why the guys out there remove it? If it cools the exhaust down then I will remove it since I live in Cali and get lower numbers on my smog tests when I let my exhaust get hot before testing.

Finally getting an engine for the 4runner!

Whaaat? Ok so I got my motor yesterday and it looks like it's in pretty good shape, to start, its a lot cleaner then the one I am replacing so I have some high hopes. One thing that is puzzling me is this round metal tubing coming out of my exhaust manifold, running around the back of the motor...

Finally getting an engine for the 4runner!

So after leaving the 87 sitting for months waiting for me to rebuild the motor, i found a "running" 22re out of a totaled 90 4runner. He already pulled the motor so its a bit of a gamble since i cant hear it run, but hes letting me pick it up at his house for only $375 so I'm going for it. He...

    22re small block questions

That must not be the case with my motor. The timing may be off by a tooth but the knock is so loud, if it were hitting my valves it wouldnt still run. It would have bent the crap out of them cause i drove for about a mile uphill with the knocking at its loudest to get into a turnout, and i...

    22re small block questions

Ok so I just rechecked it. It seems like the piston first flattens out right when the crank his zero. But it also stays about flat until maybe 8 degrees past zero. When it first hits tdc the dist is right on the number 1 plug. By the time the piston starts to move back down the dist is barely...

    22re small block questions

It seems like the piston doesn't stop moving up I till the the crank is at the 1 o'clock position(that's also when the cam is at the 12oclock). But that wouldn't make since cause the crank is what decides where the pistons go. I'll check the dist right now. Thanks kid

    22re small block questions

It would make since that the timing chain jumped a tooth right? If it got about 2.5qts low on oil and my oil pressure went to about zero, maybe the timing chain tensioner didn't get enough oil pressure to stay engaged and it let the chain jump? That would explain why it shut off right away but...

    22re small block questions

Timing chain jumped a tooth or two? Ok so I started pulling stuff apart today and then realized I should at least check the cam for any wear before I pull the motor. Cam looks good, but I did notice that when I hand crank the motor to TDC and get the crank lined up at zero, my cam sprocket mark...

    22re small block questions

Thanks for the link, seems like a great shop buts the only do longblovks and are so far out of my price range. I would have to save up for the next 2 months to buy the stage 1 engine. I will probably have to go with a japanese rebuild just cause i dont make much money and i am in time...

    22re small block questions

The guy i bought it from said he just rebuilt the engine when he put the new head on(less than 2000 miles ago) and he told me it was bored .50mm with oversized pistons(his words not mine). Is that even possible? Im sure he meant .050mm but every kit i see goes from either .020-.040. And if my...
