What did you do to/in your 5th Gen today?!

Just finished up a little decal work on the ride. Because everyone knows that decals make your 4Runner faster.....:naughty:

    5th Gen Spotted Thread

Been hiding for awhile... But just purchased a new quicksand TRD and ran across another one for the first time in a local parking lot.

    LBJ Failure... My turn.

Well I finally removed the tire and did a visual inspection. Steering knuckle appears to look good, appears the upper ball joint suffered most of the stress. Upper and lower control arms look good along with their mounting brackets. Brake looks like it might be salvageable, no leaks under...

    LBJ Failure... My turn.

Well last Monday while driving home from work it happened. Crossed over some mild railroad tracks and as soon as the suspension compressed on the backside of the tracks. BOOM!!! I thought a bomb went off in the passenger side floor board. I slide about 200 fewer into an oncoming lane and came to...

    MPG Report

There are a lot of threads about mileage on here... But just took a trip to Isle of Palms near Charleston, S.C. Its a 233 mile journey and I am proud to report that the 4Runner averaged 19.8 miles per gallon. Filled the gas tank up on my way out of the neighborhood Wednesday morning and didn't...

    Valve cover gasket leaking

The under hood insulation was already on the 4runner when I bought it used several years ago. It looks like a factory piece to me with all the correct hardware and cut outs. Sorry for the thread hijack.:boxer:

    Valve cover gasket leaking

Not that difficult of a job, didn't even follow a write up to do mine. It did take me two days since I painted the upper / lower intake and the valve covers. the two most aggravating parts was removing the coolant line underneath the throttle body closest to the firewall and removing the driver...

    Painted Valve covers?

Well finally painted the valve covers after changing the oil and rotating the tires on both cars. The passenger side valve cover was a pain to get off, that cheap plastic cover for the wiring harness / injectors is nothing but brittle crap.

    Painted Valve covers?

That wrinkle finish does look good, do not think the Ferrari red would work... even though it looks good. Too bad VHT only offers it in red and black.

    Painted Valve covers?

Only if it was a Prius and I owned a cat. Thanks though.:thumb3:

    Painted Valve covers?

About to change my valve cover gaskets and thought about painting the valve covers and maybe the intake... What do you guys think and does anyone have pictures to share? Sounds like a good idea, but do not want it too look ridiculous. :thanks:

    Pre Road Trip Prep

Would love to take a road trip like this... think everyone has covered the basics for your per road trip prep. Thousand dollars doesn't seem like much... But you have to add all the luggage fees, the new carry-on fees, the hassle of the T.S.A., not being able to take your dog, paying to leave...

    Name that noise! Front end/suspension?

That lower ball joint seemsto be moving alot in the video, but I wouldn't say thats where the noise is coming from. If you have access to a mechanics stethoscope or a long metal rod, you could put it to your ear and try to narrow it down that way?

    Horrible Squeaking Noise

Well I bought a $4.00 grease needle today and shot some grease into the upper ball joint on the passenger side where this horrible squeaking noise seems to be coming from. Bounced up and down on the bumper, there was no more squeaking. Now the very interesting part... Drove around 25 miles home...

    Horrible Squeaking Noise

Thanks for the reply, checked the sway bar and all the other bushings. No rubbing in the fender well either....
