" I love this stupid truck but it's just too far gone to make it worth it. my wife hates it so much and that makes it even more special to me."
This had my wife and I in tears from laughing because it's exactly the same for us. Glad to see I'm in good company.

Yep, this seems to be it. Both of my driver's side doors have lost the rubber coating and molded-in rubber "springs" as pointed out in the above post. Wrapping some electrical tape around the striker solved the problem completely. The doors were so loose I was having a hard time believing that...
Dang, that door latch looks like an explosion of small parts. What exactly in the door mechanism "goes bad" when the door is loosely latching? I just went off roading today and closed the rear driver's side door on an object and now that door is doing the same thing... It latches closed but only...
Ancient thread but I'm having the same issues/question and hoping to keep the discussion consolidated to an already existing thread...
Same as the OP, my driver's door does not fully latch to the point where it is held securely in place. It latches enough to close easily and locks just fine...

Installation set up. Precious little room at the bottom of the press to attach the wrench to. Working room only allowed about an inch to two inches of movement each rotation. Took a while but I needed the extra a** the bigger press provided. I had to remove caliper to make this work.
The gold...
To be fair, I needed reinforcement on the passengers side. I'll include the setup I had to use for future reference for anyone who comes across this thread. The large press CAN fit in the wheel well, but you'll have to remove the fender liner and accept tight working conditions and little room...
