FS: 1996 4Runner e-locked Limited rust free, Central IN $7700

SOLD Finally letting go of my beloved 3rd gen. Asking $7700, I'm in Indianapolis. 1996 Limited. Auto, V6, 4WD, e-locked. Just rolling over 153k, I’ve owned it since 2013 and 99k miles. It had been ziebart wax undercoated when new and then not seen a winter from 2000-2012, and only very...

    1997 vs. 2015 4runner comparision

I'm the same way regarding the 2014 update. I don't care for the 'predator face' but the removal of the rocker covers on the SR5 and trimming the bumper bottoms to improve approach/departure angles totally transformed the look of the truck IMO, much more like a 3rd gen with the running boards...

    I would love your suggestions...

RE: plugs and wires make sure you use the OE-spec dual electrode NGKs. I also highly recommend OEM sparkplug wires over even something like NGK, which i otherwise hold in high regard. Reason being, I had some wet-weather misfires, traced to a mis-formed plug boot. Bought OEM on amazon Prime...

    trans problems? or misfire

I very strongly suspect a poorly seated spark plug wire boot on the coils. I had this exact issue, except not as severe with my '96. After a rainy night I'd get a misfire under load, but it would idle smooth. Once the truck warmed up and the moisture evaporated, all was well. Tracked down...

How the hell to get rotors off?

This was going to be my suggestion. I really struggled until I figured out driving a bolt from the opposite of the caliper bracket into the stuck rotor and POP!:gun4:

    3.4 Manual Acceleration.....

Does a CEL come on with a misfire code? This could help narrow it down to a specific cylinder. I've experienced issues like this where once it was a fuel injector (cyl #2), another time it was happening after rain and turned out to be a poorly seated plug wire. If I had to take a guess, I...

    CL Find - Need advice

I noticed this as well. This is always a HUGE red flag for me for any northern truck. Honestly, my guess is either an unreported accident repair, or a rollback, and/or a more serious rust issue that's been masked with a quick and cheap coat of rubberized undercoating. Worth a look if it's not...

Run it til it dies or replace it?

Thanks! Yeah I went the junkyard route (for $20, who can argue) after a local driveshaft shop screwed up the balance on my original shaft, and installed a nasty Neapco u joint in it to boot.

Scramble, how much does one of these run?

Need pointers: Seeing a T4R this Friday and possible purchase..

That underside doesn't look too bad at all OP.

ScanGauge II as anyone used it?

Priceless little gadget IMO, I just wish my '96 could display trans temperature. Really helped me out a few times identifying CELs and such, and nice for keeping track of MPG. Can track distance to empty as well, nice to have with our notoriously flaky fuel gauges when you get near "E."

First Time "Wheeling" in my 4Runner

Steelies look great, can you tell me more about them? How much, where you got them, and are they painted?

What's the Lowest mileage third gen on T4r

Bought mine with 99k 2 years ago, currently sitting at 120k. Reason for the low mileage is simple: the truck was basically unused in a garage from 2000-2012, only taken out in the summer for short drives to warm up fluids. Before that it saw a lot of highway miles with it's original owner, a...

    Expanding foam

Bad idea IMO, it will only serve as a trap for moisture, which in turn may cause severe rust issues down the road.
