    Driving pains..help!

I know what ya mean, timing crossed my mind, but I don't have a light to check it. The guys that fixed it, found the problem in less than an hour, I was impressed and I had them replace some other parts while they were in there, the idler bearings, hydraulic tensioner, and camshaft seals.

How many miles on your 4runner?

127k on my 97, bought with 117k and so far have replaced the starter, got a complete brake job done, new plugs/wires, crank timing gear, idler bearings, camshaft seals, hydraulic tensioner, and a minor tune up. I averaged 21mpg on my last fill up with 75/25 hwy/city

    Driving pains..help!

Finally got the runner back a few weeks and it runs like a champ now. Cost me $979 though. The main culprit was the crank timing gear and I'll post a pic to show why. The area marked in red is where the Key is not suposed to wear, this happens when the bolt holding the crank pulley and this...

    Driving pains..help!

I took the truck to a mechanic that specializes in imports rather than going to the stealership, and here is what they found in about 1 hour. They downloaded the ECU and it still shows a misfire on #2 cylinder, incorrect spark plugs, and the timing is re****ed 15-20 degrees. So he suspects that...

    Driving pains..help!

So I cleaned the sensor again, 3 times to be exact. I let it dry outside for about 30 min before putting it back in. It seems to drive better, but still slow at gaining speed from a stop, it does not bog down when I am starting from a stop now, which is an improvement also. I took it out on...

    Driving pains..help!

so I decided to take the truck in since I can't find anything wrong, it has been there since last thursday and they looked at it for 2 days. They checked pretty much everything, including the fuel pressure, fuel pump, plugs, wires, egr, ignition etc. They told me that the truck has a lean...

    Driving pains..help!

I changed the fuel filter today, took it out for a drive and noticed a little bit of a difference, still a little bit hesitant though but not as bad as it was. I'll have to drive it some more to see if it changes as time goes on.

    Driving pains..help!

So I guess I spoke too soon. I was driving home from work this morning and I'm back to square one, it's still hesitant and now I noticed that it can't maintain speed for anything...like it's losing power. with or without cruise on, it can't maintain highway speed of 70. With cruise on it...

    Driving pains..help!

Latest update, I went to autozone to buy an airfilter, maf cleaner and pcv valve. I get the filter and valve but they didnt have cleaner so I will have to wait. I replace the air filter at the store, while doing this it appears the old filter was installed backwards because I tried to put the...

    Driving pains..help!

I was going to buy the MAF cleaner from autozone but I have never cleaned one before and didn't know if that was safe to use. I would have to ask him, I didn't request that he put OEM plugs in but the wires they replaced are OEM and so is the boot they replaced over the #2 cylinder. I have...

    Driving pains..help!

Could the fuel filter be causing these problems, and is it easy to change? I cleaned the throttle body and put mid-grade gas in, keep the tires inflated and don't drive agressive and still no change...I have no CEL on and I am also thinking it could be my MAF.
