Gen 6 rear seat fold, dealbreaker?

Ugh, this doesn't look good. Where is a person to go in the midsize SUV segment? 6th gen 4Runner seems weird based on this thread (I loved our 4th gen) MB GLE quality is junk Porsche Cayenne is fun but not worth the price BMW X5 is boring VW Touareg no longer available in the U.S...

    Replacing Brake Lines

Agree with changing brake fluid every 2 years. This is prescribed maintenance on German SUVs and the logic behind it is sound (brake fluid absorbs water). If replacing brake lines, and the front calipers are original, I would replace front calipers, rotors and lines at the same time. I don't...

Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

    Look, an obese Accord!

A New "Another Transmission Thread" Thread

Glad you got it sorted. Always start with the easiest thing first. No offense to your UPS buddy, but if he doesn't own, or have owned in the past, a 4Runner, the forum advice trumps his. A Freightliner Class 8 tractor has nothing in common with a 4Runner. After the first couple of posts...

    AC Struggling

My cabin filter looked like that when I replaced it. The cabin air filter has no bearing on air conditioning "strength" or temperature. The filtration level of the cabin air filter is very loose/coarse. It only filters out the largest and most egregious contaminants.

    AC Struggling

Recharge it. Evaporator crack/failure is a common high mileage occurrence with 4th gens.

Blown head gaskets prevent engine start?

Unlikely that there is a fuel delivery issue. The spark plugs have been removed, so focus there. Are all spark plugs fully seated? Are you sure? Are all coil packs installed correctly? Are you sure?

PSA: Exercise your spare tire winch!

Good suggestion, thanks. I used mine a few weeks ago, all good.

Blown head gaskets prevent engine start?

Strictly speaking, a blown head gasket will not prevent the engine from starting. If the cylinder is full of liquid coolant and/or oil, the engine may be hydraulically locked and starting would likely not be possible. If, during the overheat, something mechanically seized and subsequently...

    Stupid wheel speed sensor nonsense

Yes, grease can come from halfshaft boots that have cracked. Use OEM Toyota parts, eg sensors and harnesses. Shouldn’t have any problems. Your nearest dealer has an online parts catalog. Easy to use and free shipping if you pick up at the dealer.

What did you do with your 4runner today?

Drove 500 miles round trip, towing a 3,300lb boat. Averaged 15.5 mpg. Two thirds of the miles were interstate at 75mph, balance of the miles were flat state highways at 60mph. Great drive and vehicle.
