Thoughts on getting a second 4runner

Aloha from sunny Omaha as well - I've had two 3rd gens for quite a few years now. I haven't looked for one for a while but can usually find one when I do. I'll keep an eye out for ya. There's certainly still a lot of them driving around here. My favorite part about the 3rd gens is having no...

Strange Front End Noise - I'm baffled

In my case it sounded like a u-joint squeaking. Sounds like birds chirping in a rhythmic pattern. Frequency would increase with speed or slowing in accord. Always does it in 2WD. Engage 4WD and it magically disappears. Reason being, in 2WD, the shaft is spinning inside the cylinder along...

Strange Front End Noise - I'm baffled

I'll throw this out there since I just got done dealing with it. PIA to diagnose. Needle bearing in the front diff. Mine sounded exactly like a u-joint going bad but wasn't.

    Rusty Under Carraige

It's not pretty but the frame looks decent from what I can see. It does look like you could use a little TLC maintenance. I'd definitely take a look at them ball joints. They look a little wet from your pics. Sway bar bushings are toast. Lots of little stuff you could replace and there...

A Weekend of Wrenching (plus I HATE rust)

Nope. Not me. Didn't even leave the house yesterday.

A Weekend of Wrenching (plus I HATE rust)

Hey, man - Hello from sunny Omaha! Not too many of us round here. Pretty difficult to find trucks around here without much rust. I've gotten lucky a few times. If you do need to use a shop, I highly recommend calling Ryan over at Toyotechs. Him and his buddy only do Toyota/Lexus. They're...

    The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Thanks, everyone - I'll throw 'em in as is. I swear the 7th injector instructions said to gap them things to something like .043. I'm perfectly happy not messing with them as well.

    The 3.4L TRD Supercharger Thread

Hey, folks - Was wondering if you guys could help refresh my memory? I need to do plug wires so I'm gonna throw some fresh plugs in as well. It's been quite a few years since I installed my SC and 7th injector kit. Is it the Denso IK22's (#5310) that go with that kit? I seem to recall that...

    Supercharger prep

All I did was simple stuff. Make sure your air, fuel and ignition stuff is running good. Like a new OEM fuel filter, sea foam or fuel injector cleaner, air filter, plugs and wires if needed. Make sure you get the correct intake gasket for the super charger (the round one).

    TBU Brembo

I've used the Brembo rotors (amazon) for years on both my 4Runners. I've never changed them and they're still rocking just fine. I think I have the Bosch Quietcast pads (non-chamfered) as well. Setup has worked for a long time and stops on a dime.

Anyone else tow a RZR / UTV / ATV with their 3rd gen?

I tow my atv's around at least a few times a year on destination trips. The supercharger helps a lot and toggling the overdrive as well. My atv's together are 1000 lbs and I usally rent a 9' x 12' U-haul with a gate. I reckon that thing weighs at least 1500 or more. No issues other than...

I'm about to cry. Nevermind, just a failing shift solenoid!

That sucks. Sounds like the tranny to me. I bet you gots a PO770 hiding in there. Don't know if you've seen this thread but there's a lot of info from my experience. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/148210-sunk-4runner-x2-please-help.html

    2nd Best Seat Cover Solution?

I got these CoverKing covers last year and they've been fantastic so far. They stay on quite tight and seem to be holding up great. Got them on amazon. IIRC they were around $70.

My FJ - Moog 'Tall' Spring lift / a comedy of errors

You don't need someone to stand on the wheel side to get the control arm down. All ya need is to remove the 4 bolts under the LBJ and the control arm will drop right down. Easy peasy to get the eyebolt in. OP, that sucks you got the shock perch upside down. I've seen tons of people do that.
