Should I buy with or w/o Nav

I put a great Garmin in my 4R for A LOT less than that factory navigation system cost. I'll spend the difference between whatever the factory one costs vs. the $300 for the Garmin on something else and still be able to navigate as well (or better in many cases) than most other systems.

    4th Gen frame ?

Well, I'm not sure I envision it as cool or prestigious. The general population (who are, by the way, the very same that certain owners are trying to impress with their vehicle choice) would not put an old FJ40 into either of those categories. However, there is something to be said for fond...

    Online repair manual or cd.

Like another poster said, you can download it from Toyota. But I must warn you, it is a pain. I spent quite a bit of time downloading and then decided my time was worth more than that. I'll spend the $$$'s for the manuals. I didn't consider the CD route because it is copyrighted material.

    4th Gen frame ?

Well, based on some of the posters I've seen here, I'm guessing I a little older than most. I can remember when my dad's friend's dad bought an FJ40 in '68 or '69. That thing got us to many a fishing hole and hunting location that very few others would attempt going into. From those initial...

    Those with 2007 Sport Editions.....

I put the Toyota all weather (or whatever they are called) rubber mats in mine. They are black and IMO, they look great. Highly recommended.

Don't flame me for this ?

Put the thoughts of that truck out of your mind. I traded in a F250 SD diesel Lariat Crewcab 4x4 (FX4) on my 4Runner a little over 3 weeks ago. I had wanted that F250 for many, many years and kept it for 1.5 years. I loved that truck. Against my will I traded it in. When looking at all of...

    Off roaders = reliability?

I guess that depends on your definition of "fantastic". Historical reliablity on those models has been far less than steallar, I believe. Right now they have good reliability numbers because they are new models. How will they age over time? If it is anything like the typical GM products...

Don't flame me for this ?

Personally, I don't worry about what other people think about what I drive.....

Im sick of driving automatic trannys

Maybe you are correct, but if you look at the specs on the Ford SD's the Dodge's and the Chevy's, they'll list the towing capacities on the autos above that of the manuals in most situations (the diesels are sometimes the exception - the autos and the manuals are equal with particular rearends)...

Im sick of driving automatic trannys

Well, I am younger than you are, and I am glad I now drive an auto trans. Now, if I had a Ferrari, maybe I would feel differently, but for everyday driving, the automatic is the one for me. And I don't find my 4Runner boring to drive, even with the auto. (Oh, and for the record, I don't have...

Im sick of driving automatic trannys

So true. I sometimes feel out of place here on this board. It seems that 7 out of 10 here are 18 or under. I'm WAY beyond that. Back in the day, I used to think manual trans was cool. Had a 3 or 4 (even one on the column) and have driven more than that. I can tell you that I do prefer...

    Dash Cleaning?

Another vote for the Meguiar's Quick Mist. I used it today for the first time and it works great.

    Xtreme cargo mat question

Hmmm.... Interesting. Is yours for the double-decker loading system or for a 4R w/o it? I got the one that is supposed to be for the double-decker. I'd prefer that mine go all the way over like yours.

    Xtreme cargo mat question

I just purchased one of these and was surprised at the fit inside the cargo area. It seems that most of the parts websites where I look at this mat, it shows the mat going all the way to the perimeter edge. Here is what mine looks like. If you have one, is this like yours too? <img...

    15k Service

Well this is my 3rd Toyota (just got my 4Runner 3-4 days ago). While the service has never been standout, I've really had no complaints either. I like the product Toyota provides and if I have an issue with a particular dealer, I would not exclude myself from buying Toyota again, only from...
