Good thought, I cannot say the door is ever locked other than the fact that the manual lock button is down. I guess it's possible that the button is going down but the rod that should move in the actuator is not moving/locking the actuator mechanism.

Had a slight accident with my 1998 4Runner that pulled the driver side door handle off, handle only, door was fine. Replaced handle, attached rods, door opens from inside or outside handle, however it opens whether door lock button is up or down. Looked for broken or bent parts but didn't find...
