    Tesla Test Drive

Congrats on your car. It looks exactly like mine. I've had it for 2+ years now. It's still awesome. Very satisfied with my overall ownership experience, even if I haven't been driving it as much due to the pandemic.

The Tesla Model 3 completely blew me away

I'll resurrect this thread. :) 1) The only way you'll come back to your car in a parking lot with a dead battery is if you leave it there a LONG time.. I'm talking weeks. "Vampire drain" is pretty minimal; usually about 1% charge per day. So if you plan to leave it at the airport for a...

    Saving for the future.

A lot of folks like to say "I'm going to invest in ETFs." Well, ETFs are pretty broad. There's a zillion of them. But to echo some of the more recent posts, the only ones you should pay attention to are the ones that replicate the indexes. You only need three categories to cover everything...

    Tesla Test Drive

I was looking at Audis and BMWs and I decided to test drive the Model 3. The car blew me away. It handled and accelerated way better than a 340i or an S4. I didn't buy it because it ran on electricity. It's just a fantastic, all-around car. That being said, I love never having to go to gas...

    Tesla Test Drive

I've had my Model 3 LR AWD for a year now. The car is phenomenal.

    OLED TV's

I don't leave my TV on CNN all day long either so I think the real world burn-in risks are pretty low, but I just didn't want to take the chance I owned a Samsung phone with an OLED display that burned in after a couple years. It's pretty cool to see a decent amount of 4K/HDR content available...

    OLED TV's

I recently picked up a Vizio P659-G1. 65" LED, 200 dimming zones. Price was $999 ordered from Walmart via the Alaska Airlines shopping portal for an extra 3 Alaska miles/$ on top (=2997 Alaska miles). Not quite as good as an OLED but still pretty good. I didn't want the burn-in worries of OLED.

To quote Jack Bogle (Vanguard founder), "Nobody Knows Nothin'." As always, adjust your investment mix to suite your risk profile and stay the course.

What's the creepiest/weirdest or scariest thing that ever happened to you??

There's a mountain bike trail I like to ride here in OC called The Luge. It's in the Cleveland National Forest which means it's open 24 hours, thus it's a popular trail for local MTBers to ride at night in the late fall and winter months when the sun sets early. It was late October and I drove...

Never listened to Dave Ramsey. I've mentioned it before but I'm a huge believer in the Bogleheads investment philosophy (Boglehead meaning a follower of the late John Bogle, the founder of Vanguard). Tons of information on Bogleheads.org, especially the Wiki there.

Here's a useful tip about Roth IRAs not many know (and I didn't know until recently). Once your Roth IRA is 5 years old, you can withdraw your contributions tax-free and penalty-free at any time for any reason. For this reason, make sure you keep detailed records of your annual Roth IRA...

    Saving for the future.

My current employer uses Schwab for our 401k plan. I do participate in this, so every two weeks an investment is made via payroll deduction into a couple funds offered there, with SWPPX (Schwab's S&P 500 fund) being one of them. My regular VTI/VXUS buys are made outside the scope of the 401k...

    Saving for the future.

BTW, one thing I wanted to point out: Suppose you wanted to "diversify" your investment in VTSAX by also buying a S&P 500 fund (ie FXAIX). The net effect on your portfolio is that you'd be slanting it more heavily towards the 500 largest companies. An S&P 500 fund is an investment in the top...

    Saving for the future.

I buy index funds every two weeks (VTI and VXUS in my case, commission free at BofA/Merrill). Every time I get a paycheck, I transfer a little into my brokerage account and add to my position. My strategy is to dollar-cost average into these funds on a regular basis, therefore it's critically...
