Wheel shakes at speed, do these lower ball joints need replacing? [PICs]

$95 plus tax in Seattle, which is probably more expensive than average. I forgot to ask them if it was an on-car turn of if they removed them - I don't think it makes much difference if the shop knows what they are doing. What you should do is ask the shop to check the rotors for "lateral...

Wheel shakes at speed, do these lower ball joints need replacing? [PICs]

It is not uncommon at all. I have never had a vehicle (and I have had quite a few now) with disc brakes that didn't eventually develop warped rotors. Rotors are a wear item. I've been watching this thread because I've been experiencing intermittent wheel shake at highway speeds for quite...

Cabin air filter - which one?

Last time I changed it I used the FRAM CF9846A Fresh Breeze Cabin Filter from Amazon ($14). It somewhat restrictive and cuts down the air flow, and I can't say I notice any better filtering. Next time I think I will try cutting up a furnace filter!

Bilstein 4600 vs 5100 vs washboard roads

I got my 4600's on Amazon for $308 including tax (free prime shipping). The install was done by a local independent shop, $335 including alignment. Here's the links to the shocks on Amazon: Amazon.com: Bilstein 24188401 Shock: Automotive Amazon.com: Bilstein 24-186049 Rear Shock for Toyota...

Bilstein 4600 vs 5100 vs washboard roads

Update: Finances are tight, and I got a great deal on Bilstein 4600's, so that's what I went with. They are much better on washboard than the OE shocks ever were, even the trailer pulls smoother now. I'll keep the airing down trick in mind but I doubt I would ever do that with trailer trailers...

    Rats!! Blown Head Gasket.

I live in a north Seattle neighborhood well away from any restaurants and we have always had rats running around (30+ years now). We also have mice, raccoon, possum and coyote. It's called wildlife. When I go camping in eastern WA it's chipmunks that get into my 4Runner. Well they used to...

Bilstein 4600 vs 5100 vs washboard roads

I need to get new shocks for my 2004 SR5 V6 4x4 with 105K miles on the clock. I drive a lot of highway miles with a small (1600#) camper trailer in tow. With a totally stock suspension towing at 70-75 mph is very easy and stable and I average 17 mpg. I can really put down the miles with ease and...

    Rats!! Blown Head Gasket.

SilverRiver, due to the repeat damage from rats, you might want to consider one of these gadgets: Mouse Blocker » Mouse Blocker » Protecting your car from mice. I had rats tearing away the firewall insulation in my 2004 SR5 and using it to make a nest in the passenger air filter compartment...

    driver seat modification

What worked for me was to buy a dining chair cushion from Beds, Bath and Beyond. It is just the right width to fill in between the seat bottom bolsters, and after a few hours of sitting on it it squashed down to the right height. Voila! A comfortable seat. Looks cheesy though.
