Thank you. That makes feel a little bit better. I just checked the trouble code the other day and came up with code 22 (see link) http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38439
Do you think this could be causing the O/D problem?
I tried your advice. With the vehicle in park with an ambient air temp of 68deg. it took 7.5 minutes for the coolant temp to reach operating temperature.
I then raced the engine up to 3700 rpm and held it there for 1.5 minutes. The temp gague held steady and just barely went up ever so...

I am getting a trouble code error of 22.
"Water Temperature Sensor (THW) Signal. "
Has anyone ever dealt with problems relating from this before? I have already replaced my coolant temp sensor with no luck and am looking for a new place to start. Thanks...
there are a few links to this if you look around. Here is a link to a write-up on a different site. Good luck

Thanks Tehdago,
Where I live the average year round is in the low 60s or high 50s, so it is probably not much of an issue. Im thinking about buying a less expesnive fan and then "modifying" my shroud to fit around it. This will put my mind at ease when I go traveling to hotter climates.
I believe in the write ups you are supposed to compensate by adding washers. This gets rid of the extra space created when you remove the fan clutch. Here is a write-up.

How important is it for the shroud to be covering the new electrical fan? I have heard of people just placing the electrical fan up against the radiator without a shroud, but am wondering if this is a good idea or not?
Congratulations
Congrats on the new 4 runner. I have a 1995 V6 also. You'll find that these forums are a great resource for questions you may have.

I believe the rear engine seal is a common failure on 2nd generation 4runners. It could be leaking from there? Sorry, no idea of difficulty in replacing seals... Good luck.
I have a similar problem where my engine overcools.

Here it goes:
It takes several minutes (and several miles sometimes) to warm up to the point where the car will shift into overdrive. It always shifts into gear at exactly the same mark on the water temp gague (just under...
