Rubber or poly steering rack bushings

Sorry for the delay. I did install the OEM bushings, and have mixed feelings about the results. They definitely helped with the harshness that I complained about with the poly ones, but now I feel like I'm all over the road. Not really sure what to attribute this to. The install seemed...

    OEM steering rack bushings

I'll be going back to the OEM rack bushings shortly, I'll let you know how it turns out.

    OEM steering rack bushings

Thanks for all the replies! The current issue with the poly bushings is that they are making noise, I believe. With the exception of tbe UCA bushings, all front suspension components have been replaced within the last 25k miles. But I knew from the day I installed the poly bushings (installed...

    OEM steering rack bushings

Does anyone know if you can even buy the OEM bushings from Toyota? The only PN I've been able to find is for the bushing that goes around the entire rack on the passenger side, PN 4551735010, but I've been unable to find the other two (they're not even shown on the exploded diagram). Looking...

First time in the 200k club!

Sorry for the delay, haven't been on here for a while. It's given me another 65k with no issues, so no complaints.

Restoring the Cardinal Red paint, 96

Pretty well, actually. I still ‘moisturize’ once a year with Meguiars #7, DA polish with either Ultimate Compound or similar, then wax with Ultimate wax. It definitely fades between, water spots are a constant problem. As soon as I figure out a Photobucket replacement, I’ll post some pics from...

    Battery Help

I recently had to purchase a new battery, so I'll share my $0.02. The Duralast Platinum (according to the Autozone guy) only has a 3 year replacement warranty while the Duralast Gold has a 3 year replacement followed by a 2 year pro-rated warranty. If you're looking for cheap, go to your local...

    FS 3rd Gen 1999 sr5 4x4 $5500 New Orleans <100k miles

Before you upload the pictures to whatever hosting site you're using, open the photo in Windows photo viewer, click the rotate button, and close the photo. It should save the photo in whatever orientation you selected. If you're using a Mac, sell it and buy a PC, then reread these instructions.

Looks like I need new tires.

X2 for the Hankook Dynapro ATM's. The P rated tires are very light, quiet, and do well in the snow. Once you know what these look like, you will see them everywhere (at least in CO), very popular tire.

    All Terrain Tire

I can't speak for sand, but I can recommend Hankook Dynapro ATM's for everything else. They're super light (P rated) so they keep your gas mileage up, and they're pretty quiet. ( I have heard they'll get louder after about 30K miles; I have less than 10K on mine) They certainly look better than...

Rola Vortex Roof Racks now $119.00

Amazon is weird sometimes. On the main product page it shows a price of $153, but if you click on the blue "other sellers on Amazon" link, you can then select the $119 with free Prime shipping options. Maybe they get paid to, or are required to, show other vendors as the primary option?

Rola Vortex Roof Racks now $119.00

I was pretty worried about wind noise (my cargo box I had on previously made having the sunroof open unbearable), but it's barely noticeable. I can hear more 'wind sounds' (I hesitate to call it noise...) with the sunroof open, I can just make out the sounds with the sunroof closed, and it...

Rola Vortex Roof Racks now $119.00

Finally got mine in! To try to mitigate the rust issue with these, I poured some motor oil down the tubes and rolled it around to try to coat the insides, drained it, and used copious amounts of silicon. No idea if this will work, but it's gotta be better than nothing. I soaked the rubber...

What Did You Do To Your 3rd Gen Today?

New roof rack! Rola, found one in Amazon's warehouse deals for $100. Since these are known to have rust problems, I poured 1/2 a quart of motor oil into the tubes, drained, and applied liberal amounts of silicon. We'll see if that works.
