A question about the 4.7 and timing belt.

Belts don't "visually" age, they just snap when they want to.

Tool for turning cam on v8?

Hope that could have been taken as a jest. I only joke because I always hear of people trying to discourage others because everything needs a "special tool" and such. Yes, it's nice to have specialized tools on occasion and sometimes they are necessary, but most of the time they're not...

    Timing Belt replacement - 2003 4Runner

I had a 17 year old Isuzu with 18,000 miles snap it's timing belt on me. Needed a new head and pistons, which meant I sent it to the scrapyard. In my opinion, just replace it. Rubber doesn't last forever (even when reinforced with Kevlar).

Tool for turning cam on v8?

^^Well, it is pretty specialized. I mean, only a 17mm wrench will work on that camshaft bolt right? Just kidding though, wrench and 17mm socket = you're good.

My V8 is loving $1.62 a Gallon Fuel!

^^I'm actually on a trip to the mainland so I don't know the weather in Hawaii, but I enjoy the cold. It's 30 degrees where I am now and beautiful. I'm just ready for a change, that's all. 30+ years in one place, especially when you don't like the ocean or the humidity is enough to wear you...

My V8 is loving $1.62 a Gallon Fuel!

Everyone says "paradise", but as a place to live Hawai'i is really s***. The roads suck, houses are ridiculous, the traffic is horrendous, mosquitos and roaches everywhere, everything is expensive, many things need to be ordered anyway, etc etc. As soon as my kids are out of the house, I'm...

Can you run the engine briefly without a belt?

Well, as a V8 owner on the other hand, I didn't even think how the V6 had a chain so...it's okay, it goes both ways. And yes, without a serpentine belt for a little bit is fine. You'll get a battery warning and obviously have no A/C/power steering, etc. so make sure if you drive a little bit...

I filled up at $3.52 :( Damn Hawaii, it sucks here.

Any way to check water pump leak easily? T belt question on pullies too

The water pump is pretty buried under everything (I just did mine). My truck is passing 211k right now and where mine was leaking (I lost maybe 1 quart a month) was the thermostat pipe and the left side coolant outlet gasket (the split metal pipe just aft of the intake manifold that the...

    Dyno numbers for the 2UZ?

It's a love hate relationship with me. I hate GM electronics but I love their motors, especially the LS series. My 5.3, despite weighing over 1,000 lb more than my 4Runner would still do 1-2 mpg better (city and freeway), and tow a fair bit more as well, not to mention spin to 6k and last...

    Dyno numbers for the 2UZ?

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm just curious), but being a V8 or not has a lot less to do with the available torque, but rather the bore/stroke ratio of the motor itself. i.e. It's like imagining the crankshaft as a wrench and the pistons/rods as your arm. If you has a 3 foot breaker bar for...

**4th gen cracked dash warranty replacement

^^New is better than uncracked right? :biggrin1: I can't wait, I just order Katskinz for my front seat and now a new dash! Christmas came late for me.

    Dyno numbers for the 2UZ?

Funny how you mentioned the Silverado and Civic, those are both my old vehicles except mine was a 2010 Si and not an R18. The Silverado though in terms of your stated weight, that has to be a 4WD 2500 HD Crew Cab because my old 1500 2WD 5.3 extended cab was closer to 5,000 lbs even...

    Dyno numbers for the 2UZ?

I guess you're right, although it's hard for me to put into words. I do understand what you're saying though. Mine's on a diet (one seat), no spare, no tools, no extra accessories and it's a 2WD to begin with. I weigh in at 3900 lbs whereas most are at 4300-4600? I also timed with an...

    2UZ-FE R&R T-Belt & Water Pump

With 210k, I fully expect my motor to be long gone before I reach two coolant changes, haha. Maybe I'll stick with red :D But that having been said, thanks for the explanation and sorry for the misinfo to anyone on my part.
