Started Rough, then ran OK. Decided to do the job myself. Ended up pulling the motor out for various reasons.
I'm in the process of putting the motor back in my 2004 SR5 (4.0). It had a head gasket leak and the brake hydroboost went out. I decided to do the job myself. A couple of the head bolts stripped in the removal process. I ended up taking the motor out to do all of the work. It's the first...
The crankshaft bolt on my 2004 V6 4Runner was a pain to get off. I got some angle iron from home depot that had a lot of holes in it. I cut it to length so that one end was on the ground and the other end reached one of the holes in the pulley. I used a hardened bolt and screwed it into the...
Thanks for the excellent write-up. I'm doing a HG job now on my 2004 V6 4Runner and want to contribute.

I'm stuck at trying to remove the upper oil pan. Iv'e removed the 17 bolts and 2 nuts from the bottom of the pan, and the 4 bolts from the back housing.
I've tried using a screwdriver...
2004 with 168K miles. Just got a misfire code on #4. Everything seems to be pointing to the HG. Started the job to replace the HG's. Stuck at the moment trying to get the upper oil pan removed. It's a PITA.
