The Interstate 24F from Costco fits fine. 700 CCA, good warranty, and it's cheap. I thought this was the OEM size? The extra width that you're seeing in the battery specs probably includes the hand hold tabs at the top of the battery, not the width at the bottom where it sits in the tray.

The Yakima boxes are plastic, not fiberglass. They hold up just fine as long you don't put a bunch of heavy stuff up there and you pay attention to how the load is distributed. I've only seen one break. It was probably 10+ years old and my buddy thought it would be a good idea to carry...
