    Need Bilstein 5100's Advice

2003 V8 Limited. 5100s with OME 887 front and Toytec Superflex rear springs. 285/70/17 tires. I’d recommend this combo to anyone. I’m happy with it on road and we will see how it performs off-road in a few weeks. Also, you don’t want “level” in terms of wheel gap. They actually means your...

    Badmeat's 2003 V8 Limited Build - RSTRNR

The timing belt/water pump job was finished up last week and she drives great. Note to self- make sure all vacuum lines are on before starting it and trying to figure out an erratic idle. I’ve since ordered inner and outer tie rod ends as I’m getting a lot of noise from the passenger outer...

2005 Frame Rust Spot / Just got it sandblasted / exterior plate or cutout?

I did some frame patching (in my build thread) due to the a/c condensation line. In the spot pictured, I would cut out and patch the area, then utilized a fish plate.

Yesterday the timing belt/water pump job was started.....I say started because it's not quite back together. I used this video as a walk through - Toyota 4.7 Timing Belt Part 1 (updated) - YouTube Everything went smoothly until reassembly. I was able to get everything apart pretty easily...

    Badmeat's 2003 V8 Limited Build - RSTRNR

My ditch lights and brackets arrived this week. I was also able to pick up a 32” light bar with Tacoma brackets from a friend that were able to be easily modified to work on the 4Runner. The pods are Kawell brand and the bar is Mic Tuning from Amazon. I ran off brand on all of my 4Runners in...

The replacement ignition coil arrived today. I still can’t quite believe that the crack runs the full length of the coil and it was still operating fine.

Productive day. I was able to somehow get the T40 torx bolts out of the rear hatch striker. They were so seized that I snapped a Bosch impact rated bit trying to get them out. Fortunately the bit was still usable, and due to its now shortened length, was less flexible and delivered every bit of...

    Badmeat's 2003 V8 Limited Build - RSTRNR

I placed my order today for ditch light brackets and ditch lights. A friend with a Tacoma has a 32" curved light bar not being used that may be installed into my lower grille when I install and wire the ditch lights. I also need to coordinate getting my sliders fabbed up. I may be making my...

Sometimes it’s the little things. Today my bulbs came in for the HVAC display. Literally a two minute job with a flathead and Phillips screwdriver that makes it much easier to see what’s going on, especially at night. Link to write up with part numbers

Tonight Apple CarPlay went in so that I don’t have to listen to the horrible disc jockeys and ads on FM radio. I went with this particular unit because it was cheap (“scratch & dent” at Crutchfield for $350 shipped with all install equipment), it has a capacitive touchscreen (vs the...

For you that use Cosmoline, do you spray Rust Reformer first?

I'll be needle scaling and wire brushing my frame before coating it with Woolwax I just did some frame repair after cutting out some rot and the guy that helped me do it recommended it. It's used at a local 4x4 shop near me as well and people tend to have good experience with it. I believe...

    A750F Transmission Fluid - ATF WS or T-IV ?!?!

firebirdguy and captsolo have been going round and round in the "170k service" thread (link here). I'm not sure why they're still going back and forth regarding which transmission takes what fluid. I posted the following in that thread... Directly from the owners manuals: Page 404 of the 2005...

'07 with Billstein 5100s. Not sure where to go from here (lift)

I have OME 887 front springs and Toytec Superflex rear springs on 5100s. Stock UCAs (alignment went fine), and 5th gen TRD OR wheels on 285/70/17 tires. Nothing rubs and the UCAs clear fine through the full suspension travel. Any offset between zero and +15 should be fine (my wheels are +15)...

    170,000K "service"

I work for a dealer group and can see our Toyota store from my desk. I also know two master techs personally, as well as one of their service advisors (he was in my wedding). I'll stick with their advice, which confirms what I've read on the internet. EDIT: This is also taken from page 404 of...
