    Transmission Replacement

I just did my trans fluid on Monday. I bought the 4runner a few months ago and have gone through the whole thing. '04 V6 with 137k. It had a weird vibe coming from the trans when cold and seemed to hang shifts on me. The fluid was nasty on the dipstick and I confirmed it once I drained...

talk me out of trading my 06 with 200k miles

Take the tires out of the total, those dont count as maintenance and at some point you have to replace them on every vehicle. So: Rebuild both front CV shafts: $80 total New Lower Control Arms with Ball Joints: $240 total New Front Pads: $42 New Rear Pads: $36 New Front Rotors: $50 for both...

    Brake upgrade

Um....how was I incorrect? Its the exact same procedure as outlined in the diagram post above under #3 how to bleed the front brake lines? And its the EXACT same way you post on the other link? BLEED BRAKE LINE (a) Turn the ignition switch to ON, and wait until the pump motor has stopped...

Replace CV Axle or Tighten Clamp

Oetikers can absolutely be opened up and be installed on an intact boot. However, just go with the advice of the 3 or 4 of us on this thread and go with a hose clamp and be done with it. Run to the hardware store grab hose clamps, install, and done......its not rocket science.

Replace CV Axle or Tighten Clamp

Agreed, just hose clamp it. When I rebuilt my CV's I used hose clamps all around, no slips or loose clamps since then. A good pair of side cutters and a strong grip will take that old clamp off without tearing the boot.

    Brake upgrade

Mine was exactly the same. Very soft....2 pumps to get it to come up etc. Its because the 1st pump expands the sh*tty soft brake lines...the 2nd pump gives you the pressure. As far as bleeding if youre doing all 4 start at the passenger rear...you always start at the caliper farthest from the...

    Brake upgrade

Did new pads, rotors, calipers, and stainless lines on the front. New Pads and rotors on rear. The stainless lines get rid of that 4runner soft pedal feel that seems to be common in all of them. Brings it up and you get immediate pressure.

    Brake upgrade

After completely re-doing the brakes on my 4th gen I think the single biggest upgrade on 4runners is a Stainless brake line upgrade. Well over the 5th gen caliper change.

    Gotta love amazon shipping.....

Haha, that had me cracking up. Weird it was shipped like that, I'm a Prime member and love the 2 days shipping and ease of return. They process returns as soon as you print the shipping label. Weird though, everything I have ever gotten has been way OVER packed. Nice that they cut the price...

V6 Oil consumption? This can't be normal.

The only oil mine consumes at 137k is the leak past the main seal. Which sucks.

New Head unit for radio 2005 Sport V8

Thats a solid price for it. I paid $109 pre black Friday through crutchfield and have no regrets. I wanted to stay economical as we get seriously dick punched on the $$$ of the wiring harness for the JBL and RDS system if you want to maintain all the OEM options.

New Head unit for radio 2005 Sport V8

I just installed a new head unit into my '04...with the JBL and RDS. Below are what you will need if you stick with a double din. I went with the JVC: JVC KW-R920BTS Has BT and AUX and perfectly matches the OEM orange dash colors. I didnt need a touchscreen etc. Dash Kit: Metra 95-8210...

    Wobble on Braking

I just put all new brakes and calipers on mine at 137k due to a frozen caliper. I didnt bother with changing to the 5th gen. I think that SS brake lines are a better upgrade on the 4th gens than switching calipers.
