There were 4 total nuts that came with the kit 2 of them are the kind where it’s a nut/washer combo because the base is much wider than the nut (like a washer). It was very clear on the diagram to use these on the rod The other 2 (ones I didn’t use) are the same size but regular nylon lock...

Like the title says, there are 2 extra nuts (1 for each side) in the kit that they sent me. I used the other wide nuts for the top of the shock and payed careful attention to the diagram they sent for the bushings and washers etc. After everything was buttoned up and good to go... I never used...

I have never heard of or read anything that says you shouldn't do that for impact reasons. I think if you're in an accident and they impact your hitch ball, they were going to hit your receiver anyways
